Cool Clunk Washers Installed (pics)

I finally installed them today - took me about 45 minutes to do the whole job.

I did find metal shavings in the bolt hole when I removed the bolt, so I know it was "walking" around when I was hearing the clunk.

Got them from David Lynn for $35, which included USPS Priority shipping. He sent them to me right away - he didn't make me wait until my check cleared.

He also included a copy of the Ford TSB detailing the issue and how to fit it.

EXACT fit, both in the control arm slot and with the bolt going through them. They are made out of 304 stainless steel, so I think they should last as long as the truck does...

Anyway, the clunk is gone and I couldn't be happier.

Anyway, if you guys find you need these washers too, e-mail me and I'll send you David's contact info.

I bought a set of them from him as well and as you stated he gets them right out. I had them within a week regular mail.

When you install just the clunk washer do you have to do an alignment?

Cool

Well, it would seem that it might be necessary. However, I pulled the nut off of the control arm to see if the bolt was off-center and at that point in time, it was centered. I was able to slip the clunk washer right onto the bolt and into place.

So, after seeing that, I jacked that baby up and installed them and put it back together.

No pull when I drive and no clunk either. I will keep an eye on the tires to see if they are wearing funny, but I think I am OK at this time.

From: Colorado,
Here is a pic of Herb's aluminum washers.
I put them in my 99 and ran them about 15k miles.
Decided to pull them out before I traded for my 04. They seemed in perfect condition and were a press fit in both years.

For the life of me, I don't understand the purpose of the slot or why they don't fix it !

I put mine in 2 years ago and they work great.

JDM also sells them for like $30.

I'm glad they worked for you. I still have the clunk. I was told I may need to grease the steering stops. We'll see if that works...
