alignment issues

i just got new f1s for the front a few days ago, i noticed that the old ones had some wear on the inside, and the truck would pull to the right. so i went to my dealer to get an alignment, and the service guy told me that i needed some sort of $180 shims to for them to do it. he said that the trucks come from the factory without enough adjustability to set it. the front suspension is completely stock. he said that they have to do it to 99% of the trucks they do.

this makes zero sense to me. anybody have any issues getting an alignment?

They are talking about replacing the shims with cam bolts. You can buy them for less than $30 and install them in less than an hour.

Do a search for cam bolts and you will be rewarded with a multitude of information and how-to's.

They told me the same EXACT thing. Only on the left side, and they did install the cam kit.

like said above, pick up a set of camberbolts (only need one for each side, put it in the rearward upper A-arm mount) for like 30 bucks, then go get it alighned at a shop. places that do alot of collision repair usually do it pretty cheap since they are doing them so often. when i did my 1" front drop i put the camber bolts in myself and had an alignment done for 40 bucks

intersting.

My 99 is stock. I only adjusted the cam bolts on both front units and when replacing the rears added the cam bolts but left the shims in.

agree with everyone else's comments

I was told by the shop I just had an alignment done at that I would need to have all 4 of the cam bolts replaced. (up front)
At a price of $170 bucks....told them to take a hike. The inside of the right front tire is worn a little and it seems to pull to the left....(go figure).
I was going to ask Konig (you out there ???) if there is a shop in Tampa/St. Pete that he can suggest, because I think these guys don't have a clue as to what they were doing.

If you can put them in yourself....I'm game.

if you weren't sure exactly how to swap the bolts out for camber bolts, check out the how-to in that thread.

if you aren't dropped, or dropped up to 1" you only need 2 camber bolts, one for each side, and that will allow enough adjustment you need for camber to put you where you need to be to wear evenly and not pull to any sides.

if you are dropped more than 1" up front though probably a good idea to get 2 for each side.

I had a flat a month or so ago.
Took it to the first open place that could fix it so i could get to work as early as poss.
I found out that due to the no adjustment/cam bolt prob. I ended
up paying for 2 new tires and a trip to install the cam bolts.
Along with the rental car the total on my flat was about 800.00

Do yourself a favor and get the beefy ford camber
bolts. The aftermarket ones wouldn't hold on
my truck. Spent two sets of tires learning that ....

You will need all four to adjust the camber correctly ...
Camber is the vertical side to side component, and
both of the top bolts need to be adjusted to set it.
