Gear labor

I was quoted $300 for a gear swap (3:55 to 3:73), is that a fair deal?

you need some serious tools to put on that nut and the crush bearing.

I did one in a Shinoda Boss Mustang and it was a B!tch.

If you have done them before and can get the backspacing and everything lined up, and you have a big *** impact, you should be OK.
But if not take it in.

They may charge you $300 (seems a little high, I've seen advertisements for $150-$225) but at least it comes with the peace of mind that it is done correctly and if you ahve any problems you can take it back.

I'd pay $300 at the Extremely very most!

$300 would be cheap in California. It also depends on your location. Going labor rate here is curently $87.50 an hr (non dealer). Expect the Ford synthetic gear oil to be expensive also.

Thanks Calightnin, but I'm here in a Po Dunk city here in Missouri. Apparently the guy here has a lot of experience working on performance vehicles and he was describing to me the majority of the time would be spent on cleaning the entire axle and properly setting the bearing(s).

If you where here in so.cali, I would hook you up. I bought the LFP 3:73 kit, went to the Ford dealer, talked to the mechanic that does the axle work. The truck went in as warranty work, gave him $100 under the table, he re-built the whole axle, bearings, seals, everything. He even replaced the steering pitman arm. I still have here the list of everything that he replaced. At another place they wanted $280 for just labor.

s.cal L 2,

Thanks for the offer! I also have a deal but obviously not as good as yours. My buddy started to date a girl that works as a manager at Ford and she hooked me up with the gears for $70.00. Now labor is will be getting me in the rear, I guess pun intended. It's crazy to think the amount of profit that is being made when selling at whole price.
