alt size...

How big is the alt in a 2002 Lightning. I want to get some bass in my truck but I dont want to hurt performance or get any dimming... I also dont want to upgrade the alt right now or add any extra batts.. I wonder what 1400 watts would do to my truck...

after searching i found it is a 130 amp but my friend said its less then that...

Thanks guys

I've got 1400 watts and a 1 fared cap and I still dim the lights no problem. you will want a new alt from Mr Alternator.

I read a lot about Mr. Alts shreading belts and besides that I just dont feel like putting that money into an alt when I need other performance items...

Would you have to take the S/C off to change the alt?

I think I am right on this. Your alternator puts out a 130 amps of current. Here the power formula. Power = Intensity x Voltage.... When the truck is cranked you get about 14.8 volts to the amp.
1400/14.8= 94.6 amps is what it takes to make 1400 watts. That is the reason your headlights are dimming. I wonder if you could put a small capacitor on your head lights to keep them from dimming???
