Finally figured out what I wanna do... got a few Q's
Ok, got delayed and Im very dissapointed... I dont get my truck until Wednsday now....
but anyway, Iv decided already on what I want to do to her first... the very first thing I wanna do is a new hood and rear shackles. I found this hood on ebay and I really like the look of it... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2441010611 i called around to a few paint/body shops and got ranges of $250-$600 to paint/install I wanted to do this first because the truck already has quit a few performance mods and there are 2 other black L's in the city i live in, figure this would kind seperate me from the others.. After the hood and shackles im gonna have to save up again... but hopefully very soon my next 2 projects are an electric fan and factory tech valve body for the trans... I found a e-fan for $375 and ftvb for $200 both brand new...but I got 2 questions... for the average joe, are these 2 things I can do myself? i havent worked on cars very much, this truck is gonna kinda me a new thing for me... and also, the chip that is in the truck was just programmed for all the stuff on it right now... after the fan/ftvb would I have to get it reburned? and if so... how much does that usually cost? its a PSP chip then after that stuff, i think im just about done.... would like the mtx thunder box for stereo and a few other little things.... any other suggestions/ |
Yes to can you install the items you mentioned yourself.
PSP is Sals(Lightningtuner) chip. If he doesn't zero in on this thread, you can make a new thread to him and ask him. He can pull the code on that chip and tell you exactly what is what. Go here if you don't already know about us. There are a boat load of L owners in your area. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/index.php?s= And welcome to the "brotherhood":rocker: Rocks:beers: |
yup, already signed up with Talon,NLOC,SVTPerformance and here....
|
Kewl....why weren't you at Hooters Thursday???? or where you:confused: .
By the by....I added to my post above about your chip. Rocks:beers: |
no i wasnt at Hooters... to be honest I dont know when u guys meet.... and also, like I said... i dont get my truck until this coming Wed (like 4 more days)... so i wouldnt have wanted to come... unless i came in the bike :D

Be cautious on what you factor in for the hood. It can be a more expensive mod than what you bargain for. Some aftermarket hods don't fit as well as stock ones and also they can sometimes require a fair amount of prep work to make them look good, and will increase the cost. The hood looks nice in the picture though.:beers:

since im new i dont really know that much, but iv been ready steadily for last few weeks... anyway, between the mods I already have and the efan/ftvb there really isnt much more that I know of.... i dont wanna go all out with a KB or NOS....
anyway, if i do have to get the chip reburned.... i would like to do it all at once... so other than the efan/ftvb... what else might I wanna get so I will know ahead of time.. stuff that would affect the chip i mean... |
Scott,
I can't stress to you enough how important it is to get in touch with the tuner of that chip. He will be more than happy to give you some very safe advice. You have purchased an already modded L and Sal will be able to keep you from causing the loss of a rod as the temps here cool off. I personally noticed the IT20 plugs listed on your mods. I like the IT22's for a little extra detonation protection. But again...check with Sal along with getting everyone elses input. Rocks:rocker: |
do you have sals email address or phone #?
|
http://www.powersurgeperformance.net
You can find him there. He also posts on here as Lightningtuner. The PSP chip is his tune. Hope this helps. Rocks:rocker: |
well i just emailed the guy who sold me the truck to get the "code" for the chip so when I talk to Sal i will have it... i called Sal but they are out of town until Monday...
anyway, i did talk to the seller of truck about the mods/chip the other day... and he said that he has the exhaust installed by itself.... but then didnt get the chip done until after he had everything... he said the pully/ram air/mass air/etc was all done at once and then PSP did the chip for exactly what he had done to it... and he said the psp people suggested the it20 plugs... anyway, so if he is telling the truth, as of right now... the truck should be completely tuned right??? |

Yes, if Sal at PSP knew of all the mods on the truck at the time of the tune...then yes...it should be OK. One warning though. If the tune was set up for heavy advanced timing, the cooler temps may create a loud boom if you drive it under sustained WOT runs. If you want, you can start a new thread with Lightningtuner as the subject and Sal will see it and help ya out. Rocks:thumbsup: |
Scott,
I too am a memeber of TALON (02BOLT), and live in Grand Prairie. You can check my sig for mods. At any rate, Rocks knows his stuff, as do several others of us on the TALON board. Listen closely to their advice as it will greatly enhance, not only your truck's performance, but also, its longevity. As for the hood, I highly reccommend David's Paint and Body (817-860-3706) on Pioneer Pkwy (about 3 blocks east of Bowen on the North side of the street). He painted my hood and front bumper cover, and does very good work at a fair price. Tell him Rob(with the Silver L) sent you. Congrats on your new purchase, look forward to meeting you. Later, Rob:beers: |
