Underside corrosion & rust
Underside corrosion & rust
Hi all, I took delivery of my 2003 Lightning in late March, there was quite a bit of corrosion on the underside. The trans exhaust and many other bare metal parts had rust and corrosion as well. The trans is almost pure white in color. I realize it's from the vehicle being exposed to salt roads as it was transported from the plant to the rail terminal. I was curious to see how many other Lightning (or other F-150's) owners experienced the same condition. The foreman at the dealer who owns a Lightning (2001) said his was the same and after he drove thru some rain it cleared up. Well I have driven thru some heavy rains and after 4 months its not any better. I took photos of it on the rack and had the serv manager look at it in for future reference.

SVT,
Did you ever get the corrosion problem resolved? I'm looking at an '03 4x4 EB Expedition that had 60 miles on it before it was dealer transferred from NC to SC. I drove the truck and love it right up until I looked underneath, yuck. I noticed lots of corrosion and white residue and I think road salt is to blame as well. Looks just like someone drove it right into the ocean and then let it sit
. There is a lot of vital parts that are corroded like brake line connections, frame fasteners, and most all the driveline components.
I'm pissed about this kind of crap from Ford and I'm going to do what I can to not take delivery of the truck until all is fixed or they find another one for me that is not corroded all to HELL.
I was just curious to know what finally happened with your corrosion situation.

Not completely Daveman.
I apologize for taking so long as I didnt realize anyone was replying to this thread anymore. Its a bit complicated but I am not real happy about the corrosion still even though it has cleared up quite a bit. I am worried about the future as I plan to keep my truck for a very long time. I cant make too many waves considering the nature of my aquisition of my vehicle. I wouldnt worry too much as you have plenty of warranty time to sort it out.
