I'm No Longer A Virgin!!!!!!!

First time ever driving at the track. The air temp was 82 with the track temp at a blistering 118. That's my excuse for not getting better times. Actually though for a completely stock truck I am pretty happy. I forgot my air gauge so I didn't even air down at all or disconnect the boost dump. In case you can't read it, run

one was:2.102 60ft
13.978 1/4 at 98.61

Run two:2.108 60ft
13.926 1/4 at 98.69

First run was from idle. Second was from about 1100 rpms. I could hardly get the thing to spin off the line. They had the track well sprayed/prepped just like they do for a big race.

Those are my excuses but all I wanted to do is have some fun and I did. BTW my brother who runs a low 12sec '70 Challenger was just pleased as punch that a bone stock truck can run in the 13's.

I also met Potac who also was running a stock '03 with similair times.

Man it only took you less than 14 seconds? :D

NJLightning01 Jun 30, 2003 11:18 AM

Congrats on a great day at the track. I only did marginally better on my first 3 passes. The only thing holding you back is your 60' times. Get them down and you will be looking at mid 13s.

Next time I am bringing ice... lots of it.

Nice times! I managed to squeak out some 13.8's@99. I still cannot break 100 mph on this track but the traction is better than Bremerton Raceway. You left at about the right time. I think I got one more run in and then the truck that was running 7's decided to spill its engine down the track so they closed a little early.

I think I will get the shackles too. Your truck looked pretty good leveled off.

ps I am adding some mods this weekend and am going back on the 11th to test them out.

Potac:

I think this weekend I am heading down to 41 in IN to take my truck down the strip. Hopefully I can get this exhaust leak problem fixed before then! Won't be a virigin either! w00! Anyone have any tips for launching? Brake it to about 1500 then just let off the break full or slowly come off it?

Not talking from experiance here, but it all depends on the track. The Seattle track was well prepped. Some tracks aren't.

I will be going both the 9th and 11th. I am going to bring a bunch of ice bags too so if you remember, bring a towel to ice the intake. There have been a couple other L's that are usually there when I go (silver '01 and a black '02). We need to get a bunch of us there to slap around all the rice that shows up.

My technique at SIR is to leave off of idle. At the third yellow I just stand on the gas. Usually that will get me a 13.8@99 with a 2.1 60'. I did get a 13.7@99 once. The one time I tried power-braking I ran a 13.9@99. I still have not hit 100mph at SIR. On the other hand, at Bremerton Raceway, I ran my personal best (13.7@101) by launching at 1000 rpm.

Ok cool.. I will plan on being there on the 11th... what time do the gates open????

Do I need a helmet.. not sure how picky they are on the 13 break out there.....

that is funny about bremerton.... I ran fast there in my bullitt last year.... could not get any traction and ran a 14 flat at 104....

Thanks

Doug

I think you can make your first run without a helmet. They seem to check that stuff though so if you run 13's once they will probably not let you go again without one.

Gates opem at 4pm, racing starts at 5pm. I will probably get there around 6pm. Plan on standing around a lot because they are also having a Test & Tune and Car Club Challenge that day. You will probably get about 4 runs in.

I might be able to get an extra helmet but I would not count on it.

Ok thanks for the info... I hope to be in the 13s...... but you never know...... do you have any ideas where I can pick up a used helmet???? or a cheap helmet????/ thanks Doug
