Lowering Q's For Those Who Have Done It.
 

Hey guys. I'm ready to lower my truck (Ford 1/2 lowering kit, washers from David Lynn and cam bolt kits) and have a few questions regarding the pinion angle and stab. bar links. First, will the 2" drop in the rear throw the pinion angle out enough to warrant shims? Also where do I get the shims from? I take it they would be a wedge type shim that goes on the spring perch. What is the optimal angle for the pinion and where is it measured from? Also do the stab. links have to be replaced for the 1" drop in the front. Lots of questions I know but I want to do this right the first time. Thanks.

Can't answer them all, but here's a start:

(1) My understanding is that a 2" rear drop puts the pinion at a perfect angle.

(2) I don't know how to measure, but any truck shop will.

(3) Pinion shims go on as you described. They are available anywhere that sells truck lowering or raising stuff.

(4) Both the front and rear anti-sway bar end links should be replaced. The geometry should be restored to stock. make sure to take "before" pictures to guide you. The rear bar is not level stock, but the front pretty much is.

hmm...that never even entered my mind...

with going with a 1" front drop, i would need to fix my front swaybar endlinks? :confused:
