After doing a search here before I removed my heads, I couldnt find a pic of what a helicoil looked like and why exactly they're beneficial to us. Well, look at this pic, I went from 4 threads to 9!!
These are the wire type inserts and there's no way in hell these things are coming out! Just stay away from the solid type inserts, they tend to come out with the sparkplug.

Also thrw in a quick pic of my ported heads! https://www.f150online.com/galleries...1686-58613.jpg

Good luck with it!

Jwasted- Good question, Ive heard everything from you lose power to a gain of 40+. I cant really see losing power though. I also had my intake ported while it was off. Ill make a post and give the verdict on the power gains.

I also went ahead and had all eight sparkplug holes helicoiled.
:fyi: They charged $15 a hole, I figured it was cheap insurance since the heads were already off.

nice heads...i seriously doubt you would ever lose power, i dont think people know what they are talking about when they say that. specially with the tuners and customers trucks running faster now with cam/head porting swaps.

I believe MM&FF did an article awhile back on porting heads on "the Fridge".....and if im not mistaken they reported little or no gains....ill try and find the issue/article

I did ported heads, oversize valves, and crower cams and saw no appreciable gains. Like many mods, it works best on highly modded trucks, and less for stock-ish vehicles. My guess is you wont see gains until you run above 18-20 psi boost and only then if you have an exhaust system capable of moving the air after its left the heads.

I count at least 12 threads but :smoke: my eyes aren't what they use to be

Either way, it's a hell of a lot better than 3 or 4
Nice Mod Skank Dog, I like it alot

I just installed CNC Stage II heads and mild ModMax cams this week. Took it for a test drive tonight. I am hoping for a few tenths, which I feel is a reasonable gain for heads and cams. The heads give you more power than the cams.
