Vacuum/boost difference explaination ?!?
Alright, I admit I'm green at this, but here goes (putting my Bed-Rug in was the equivilent my2002lightning of putting a man on the moon).
Alright, what's the difference between vacuum and boost? I know that in my '02 L, the Eaton starts whining when I get on the gas, but it doesn't go above 0 boost. But, when I really GET-ON-IT, it REALLY wakes up and takes off with the needle well into the boost range!
I'm thinking that boost means the blower rotors start "spooling" up and waiting for the S/C air-fuel mixture to kick-in.

All naturally aspirated engines run under vacuum. The blower would make boost ,or compress air, all the time if it wasn't for the boost bypass. When you give it enough gas to lose vacuum, the boost bypass, a little butterfly valve in the blower, closes and positive pressure goes into your engine. More fuel is dumped under boost due to the amount of airflow. Hope this helps.
