410's opinions?

anybody switch from 373's to 410's and feel a difference? I was thinking about doing the swap. I do mostly city driving, stop sign to stop sign. I still have the stock F1's but plan to switch the the nitto DR when they go. would I feel the 410's in everyday driving? would they be an improvment over the stock 373's? I can get them installed for free, so if its worth the cost of the gears, ill do it. just want to know you guys opinions.

I surely wouldn't do it. Your mpg will go to 'hale'. You already have more torque than the tires can 'hold on launch. If you use 26" tires like I do at the track, you will be close to a 4,10 with the 3.73. Others have said that the 3.73s are almost perfect for our Ls.

I recall seeing one of the tuners post "not so good" results going from a 3.73 to 4.10 gears. Like the gentleman stated above, 3.73 is probably the one to stick with.

BINGO......we have a winner:banana:

:fyi: with the 26" tall ET, I still spin all thru first gear. I just purchased some 28" tall slicks. I hope that reduces the tire spin and lowers the 60' time. O yeah, I have the 3.73 gears

Guys,
I realize I'm not driving a Lightning, but would you recommend these gears for a 4.6L. I currently am running 3.55's...thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I run 4:10s but will be switching back to 3:73s or maybe 3:55s.
I have a lot stronger engine trans combo (thanks Jim & Gregg) and think I can push a taller gear.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!Cannot hurt with a N/A 4.6...............

I have 4.10's and this is how the truck should have come from the factory. 4.10's are in no way shape or form too low of a gear for the average street driven L. Now if you are over 500rwhp or so then the 4.10's probably won't help much but then again JL runs 4.10's and if had slowed him down I am sure he wouldn't still be running them!!!

with my 4.10s I have no traction:D

HANKFAN Apr 5, 2003 10:12 AM

I hook up better with my current set-up 4.10's, JLP traction bars and Nitto 555R's than I did with the 3.55's, Nitto 555R's and no traction bars. I was surprised at how hard that I can launch on the street with my current set up. The JLP bars made a huge difference in how hard that I can launch on the street with the 4.10's.

Also keep in mind the 4.10's only increased my rpm's by 320 from the factory 3.55's. Its just barely noticable at cruizing speed. Where you really feel the 4.10's is at the launch and this thing pulls like a beast through 1st and 2nd gear. I would reccomend 4.10's to anyone who's L is mostly a daily driver.

Hey thanks guys for the advice. I'm seriously going to go ahead and convert my gears to the 4:10's...Thanks again.

so most people say no to the 410's on the lightning, but a few say go for it, I thought that 410's would be perferct for the lightning since its so heavy, it would help get it going. for the people that say no, do you have the 410's in or are you just speculating that they wouldn't be good?

4.10's will be my next mod. I run 20's on the street so will help me alot. And i run 28" tall hoosier slicks so it should help me at the track. Everyone seems to think the 28" slicks are a perfect combo with the 4.10's. We shall see. From what i hear it makes the truck a hell of alot more fun to drive from light to light. :rocker:

HANKFAN
I sent you an e-mail last week through the site :beers:. Any updates on how you like the gears now that you have had them for a while. And any track times with them? I will be going from the 3.55's to 4.10's just like you.
