Head gasket leak

I have 02 L. There is a small amt. of oil on bottom of trans. After running for a while you can smell oil burning when you turn off. Oil is about 1/2 way on dipstick.

Question is, if you have a bad headgasket, won't you lose water also. And if you're losing water, on start up, won't it smoke white?

that just means that only the oil passages are leaking not the water passages

With 6(factory amount) full quarts in the crankcase, it should only be 1/2 way up the measured part of the stick. Be sure you're checking it after it's sat for several hours.. I always check mine on a weekend morning.

The head gasket oil leak is common on 5.4 engines, the leak happens on the presure side of the gasket, were the oil comes from the block into the head, I had to have the head gasket replaced on my Lightning about 3 months ago (right head) and the service tech showed me were the leak comes from. ford has a thicker head gasket that they now use to fix the problem.
