What Slick Size

I have a 01 L that has run !2.89 at 107.5 with a 2.20 60ft time on worn F1's.. I want to get either the 28x10.50x16 Hoosiers or the MT 26x11.5x16 slicks or the Nitto 305x45x18 555r Drag Radials. I am concerned about not loosing mph if I go to the 26" rather than the 28" tires and also the difference in ET with the slicks vs the Drag Radials. Does anyone have realworld experience with these options. My dyno figures are below if they help.

398.5hp 4700rpm
490 Ft Lbs

You'll go faster with the 26" tall slicks cause your gear will act more like a 4.10 with the short tire. With the hoosiers you'll be right around the same height as the stock F1's so you'll still gain ET when you hook up better. 2.2's are horrible! you got allot more in there, maybe 3 to 4 tenths

I haven't tried Hoosiers yet, but that's what I decided on. Check out this thread for a direct comparison of dyno numbers between F1's (28") and Et Streets (26"). I lost 18 rwhp and 32 rwtq (Actual) just by bolting ET Streets on. Some people will argue with me that the test wasn't valid. I agree that there are variables involved, but I have seen lower trap speeds at the track as well and the dyno comparison IMO is a guideline.

I don't agree with RTKilla
Get the 28x10-16 slicks, they are a little wider than the 26 inch tires. Also they are more stable, and with the 28's you won't run out of rpm's as you go through the traps.

I ran a friends 26's on my truck once and I wasn't happy with them, I like my 28's much better.

P.S. get some traction bars

My 1.63 60'[easy 1.5's on the east coast] and Nitrous Petes 9.993 run on ET streets are proof enough that anyone who cuts them down, does not have enough experience with these tires.

I will admit that i like the look of the Hoosier better but the proof is in the 60'

Please dont tie similarities between a 26 tall tire based on what a stang runs compared to a 28 inch most Lightning owners run. 2 Different kinds of susp which makes the comparison apples to oranges.

Im with Don, go 28's and with a full slick. Hoosier makes a nice 28X10X16 Drag tire. Once you break em in, they will hook. I had to screw my sidewalls.

I run a 26" and it is equal to a 4.08 gear.don't worry about running out of motor, went thru the traps at 4000 to 4500 rpm if I remember right.

Wow, The last message posted times were surprising. I ran a 12.89 at 107.5 with stock F1's with a 2.02 60 ft (the 2.2 in the initial post was a typo) with less mods. Could it be the driver, or the 26" slicks limited his mph and therefore ET. I think I went through the traps around 4500 with stock 28" tiires. With 26" he should be 300 - 400 rpm above me and therefore shifting into 4th. I was wound up pretty tight in 3rd. Also my truck made peak Hp at 4700.

The tire he runs and the tire MOST L's run is the same et street.
Most L owners i have seen , and i have seen a lot at different tracks around the country....use the 26x11.5 et street.

In october there were around 35-40 L's at a local strip and i beleive only one was running the hoosier slicks.....hardly the majority.

And this surprises me, i went 12.99 @ 106.7 in ful trim on stock f1's with a 2lb pully.......and my truck is a bit slower then some of the trucks out there.

You should be running about 2 tenths faster with a 5lb pully I would think.

Yeah, and 26" tires with 373, which is in the 01's put's your rpms much higher hitting the traps then with 28's. Those 3-400 rpms could be the diffference between a good run an a ventilated block

Hmmmm, my truck ran 12.79 with et streets when there were no pulleys and came from the dealer new with 373 gear....250+ trips down the strip and the inside of my block looked new when tore down after 29k.

sorry

just found my slip

12.993 @ 106.9, 2.07 60ft

mind you my truck is a 2000, with stock gears (353) and 20 less horsepower.......so with figuring in the difference between the 2000 and 2001 balanceing out with the minor mods, and the difference in 60's with you having et streets.......about even.

Don't know much about what your last post was supposed to be about there guy......but i didn't know there was timeslip competition going on, just simply stating the trucks' times seemed to be off with such a bigger pulley.

Also....are you trying to say that because your motor happened to look brand new after 250 trips down the track and 30k miles (brand new huh?), that you advise everyone to run their truck the way you did and grab those extra rpms?????

I strongly don't advise this, especially if you running high boost levels and stock bottom ends. Why push the truck more than it needs to be????? That's how we end up ith 10 page flame war posts.

Glad your truck worked out ok IB, but i think of field test were run, you would be in the small percentage of non failures.
