All last year, cars were going 11s with no cages. But the Lightnings going 11s were bitched at almost every pass. And now you've got 03 Cobras going 10s with IRS (NHRA rules state all IRS cars 10.99 and faster must be converted to live axles). Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the 03 Cobras, and it's cool they can get away with it from an owner standpoint, it just sucks that we have to drastically alter our trucks just to run 11s. |
Wow, that sucker is FAST! :rocker:

Can anyone say Viper killer??? And who would have ever thought it would be possible with 283 cubic inches!!!! :bows:

Do either of those cars have cages btw? IF not, I bet they do by the next event.:thumbsup: |
All tracks are either NHRA or IHRA. The event that is taking place does not matter, the track tech officials must abide by the rules of whichever sanctioning body the track is, and must have at least one tech inspector on hand at all times that is approved by that sanctioning body.
I was not complaining that Lightning owners have to do certain things to their trucks. I agree that if you plan to run a certain ET, you must abide by the proper safety rules. What I was saying is that last year there were a bunch of Lightnings running 11s and they got 1, maybe 2 passes at most tracks before they were told to park it. The 03 Cobras were running 11s all year long, and there were even special events held at national races just for them, and nobody had the proper safety equipment (roll bars, harnesses, live axles for 10 second cars, etc) and nothing was said. |

I agree with Sal, I have watched as "L" owners have been forced to scramble to find ways to install roll cages without ruining their rides everyday appearence and comfort level while the 03 Cobras have been given quite a bit of freedom. Afterall, the rules were made to protect drivers and spectators alike, and most were passed after serious incidents. Let's hope this season sees a more balanced and even enforcement of the rules. With that said, Pete has one baaad ride................on half-shafts no less..

THATS ONE SERIOUS COBRA,
CONGRATS PETE :thumbsup: I will be the happiest SOB alive if I get forced to park it for running a high 11 without the proper equiptment :D Mean while the community seems to have moved right into the 10's and soon 9's with the SVT Supercharged Line up GO GET-UM SAL :bows: |
Does Petes car have an actual stock irs or does it have the braces?
|
yea, i got my balls busted by some old lady (i know that sounds nasty) about not having a helmet and running a 13.8...oh well, its their job, i just hope for everyones sake that they enforce this on the cobras
|
Lets not forget Pete's car is an automatic....I would LOVE to see him duplicate his numbers with a stick ;)

Great job Pete but;
Its a game and we all have played it or are playing it. How many times have you heard someone say "I would love to be kicked out of the track this weekend" because they are hoping for an ET that will require a safety device that they currently dont have? The Cobra's have been given wayyyy too much leeway in my opinion and its going to wind up with someone getting seriously hurt and one of the sanctioning bodies will get involved, investigate and find out the proper safety items werent on the vehicle, then your gonna see 95 percent of the Cobra's parked, and not allowed to run at all. Too many inexperienced Cobra owners going faster than they ever imagined without the safety equipment=disaster waiting to happen. JMHO IIAA ASI VMF AWAJ |
