Flip your receiver over and bolt the ball on the other side. Ever see any 4x4's with a lift kit and a receiver that drops low? Just do the opposite with yours to raise your ball up. Hope that makes sense...

Gas mileage

I dont know about anyone els but i keep records of my gas mileage and this past month it avaraged 12.8Mpg. I don't tow anything but i live in town and there is a lot of stop and go.

BTW: if you get the truck when you spend $50 to fill it up as soon as you start it up and crack the throttle you forget about all of that

Here's what my wife towed.......Weight of all estimated to be about 12,700 lbs. She averaged just under 12mpg. for the 580 mile trip.

I had already removed the torsion bars from the hitch, hence the very squatty look.

Talking

Here's the last one I just towed......Weighed on a certified truck scale at 13,630lbs. I averaged just under 10mpg.

I'm going today for the next one.........my '66 Yenko Stinger RoadRacer. This will be a fun trip. The car weighs maybe 2300lbs., and I will only load a few other items. Total weight should only be around 10,200lbs.

No they don't...........but there is hope that someone will think I'm a poser L and try to get it on. In 41,000+ miles.......still no races. See........the Expy wheels give the L that wounded fish look.

I just got back from my last tow. Pics to follow. Again........passed everything on the road. LOL One car was trying to pass on a hill.......and finally gave up when he saw the L could maintain 75mph. while towing........and going uphill. Heehee

Latest tow.........just under 11mpg. running 65-80mph. Going from 5700' altitude to sea level, back up to 7000' + (Flagstaff), and up and down ending at 5000'.

Again, the torsion bars have already been taken off. The towing ride on the L was almost even front to rear. Slight rise in the front. I take the bars off to back into the driveway and through the gates. It seems to negotiate backing maneuvers easier when they are removed.

Although my 01 L tows excellent, I think my 93 L's actually tow even better. Seems like with the 01 you have to stay in the boost (maybe 2 to 3 lbs) to maintain 70-75 mph with a heavy load. The 93 just cruises along with the 351 and 4:10 gears. I think the 351 makes more torque than the 5.4 (without boost). The 93 very rarely kicks out of overdrive when towing.

Yet another trailering story
I just got done yesterday towing my Rock crawler Samurai around town to get various things done to it.
I have a 2000 that is mostly stock, but has a 1/2 drop on it.
To answer your concerns, (if they haven't been already)
It tows GREAT!
The trailer was about 1500#'s, and the Samurai I'm guessing is about 2000#, so not a huge load, but not just a small trailer either.
The trailer had electric trailer brakes, and I have a controller installed.
Most of the trailering was freeway, and all flat, but I could cruise at 75 no problem.
Had to increase the braking distance a bit, but I felt very confident in the brakes.
I was in the boost a little when getting on the freeway, and pulling away from lights, but not too bad.
BTW went 223 miles on 20 Gallons, so around 11ish for MPG...
One last thing about the drop, I have air bag suspension in the rear, and it did need to be pumped up.
I could feel the rear bottoming out no just small manhole covers, so I stopped and filled the bags to bring the rear up about 1 1/2", this solved that no prob.
I might suggest doing the same if you were going to tow a car or something similar, and you are planning on shackles, or a drop.

We actually decided to get this Lightning, not only to replace the first one but to tow my Samurai with. (We have to drive about 30 miles in any direction to get to rocks)

I think this will fit the bill just perfectly!

Good luck!
P.S. They say silver is the fastest, but it may be a rumor...

From: Colorado,
Are you guys manualy controlling the overdrive?

I was warned to turn it off while towing ANYTHING!

I figure as long as it isn't shifting up and down a lot to let it go...

Good thread just the stuff I need to here. May put mine to the test soon.

I read a thread Gregg Evens (Factory Tech) posted that said that you should never have to mess with turning it on or off. Just leave it on all the time.
