i'm plug paranoid!

I know it makes a ticking sound. But how faint is it? Or is it pretty audible? Heard a ticking on my drivers side but its pretty faint. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!

If it were my truck the first thing I would be doing is checking my plugs... Much cheaper now just to check em.. IF thats the problem and it launches you gonna have to get a new head and thats mucho dollars..............

WHATS THE SOCKET SIZE TO CHECK THEM? ARE THEY HARD TO GE T TO? I HAD A NEW ENGINE INSTALLED IN MINE ALREADY BUT FOR A DIFFERENT PROBLEM

jaymz Feb 12, 2003 03:17 PM

"Are they hard to get to?"

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Piece of cake! if you're a contortionist, don't mind bloody knuckles and have a couple dozen socket extensions, swivel joints, and lots of time (and beer!).

captainoblivious Feb 12, 2003 03:34 PM

What you need:

Standard spark plug socket
6" extension
3" extension
3/8" ratchet

for coil packs
7mm swivel socket
8" extension
1/4" ratchet

Patience is the key. And you can get to every spark plug without a swivel socket, so don't use one.

Do not over-tighten these plugs or that could also put you into a launch mode, remember they are aluminum heads.....

what all has to be removed first in order to get to the spark plugs..I know the Intake filter box up to the intake manifold right?

LIGHTNINROD Feb 12, 2003 03:59 PM

5/8" plug socket.

Btw, I just noticed that on the box the Denso IT24s come in there is the instruction: Tapered-seat plugs--finger-tight(a drawing) and then printed--1/16th of a turn more(after finger-tight).

Ray: You don't have to remove anything but the PCV lines. The intake shouldn't be in the way nor will the fuel rails.

[ ARE THEY HARD TO GE T TO?

As reported in a previous post, I just check mine and found two plugs loose. As for being hard to get to, let's just say Ford put the spark plugs in the engine compartment and built the damn engine around them.
