Ordered Nitto's, Whooa Shipping $$$

Like the style of our Lightning wheels, so I ordered new Chrome Replicas and a set of Nitto's for them from Discount Tire. Got the 295 Extremes for up front and the 305 Drag Radials for the rear. So far so good. Site says free shipping. Of course that means only in the lower 48 states. They want $500+ bucks to get them up to me here in the frozen north, WHAT??!!! Finally figured out a way that was reasonably priced. Discount will send the wheels and tires mounted and balanced free to Seattle, where a barge company will bring them to me for 82$. Happy ending. Hope I like the tires.

You wanna play you gotta pay
God, now everyone is quoting that crap.
Anyway, I understand your delema. I'm trying to get some tires from Tirerack and they want $174.00 and will only FedEx them 2nd Day.

Try Discount. Free shipping, by Fed-ex I think. If you can find your tire there at a competitive price, you cant beat their shipping fee (in the lower 48).

I live in AK as well. You might want to call them and ask if they will ship FedEX Ground to Anchorage. And set something up to pick them up. FedEx Ground just opened here recently.

Sorry didnt notice your Anchorage Address. Good input. I'll see what the Fed-ex ground charge would be to here. They always truck Fed-ex deliveries here from Anchorage anyway since air is so iffy in the winter.

I tried to ship 4 tires (no wheels) from L.A. to NJ. UPS wanted over $300. Fed Ex--$120. It pays to shop around.

At least you guys might have an option with FED EX ground, I remember seeing a deal with Nitto DR's up in Jersey, the guy wanted 250 and I thought it was a deal, the quoted price to air freight them to Hawaii, tires only, was another 250, I had to pass and just pay the marked up price in the islands.:bandito:

Called Fed-Ex

Yeah, we can use Fed-ex ground up to here. The only catch is that both ends must setup a Fed-ex ground account, or have one in existance, a regular account doesn't help.

HUH?

P.S.-Called and got a Fed-ex ground quote. I guess that service is not an option. They want a tad over a THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!
HAHAHAHA. What have they been :smoke:

Restaurants

Yeah, there is actually several good places in Anchorage and in Girdwood (alyeska). The Double Muskie (sp) in Girdwood is good,
and in Anchorage the choices are many and depends on what you are looking for. There are plenty of chain restaurants, plus many upscale and a couple 4 star. If you make it to Valdez, eat at the Pipeline Club.

Yo Mark:rocker:

Thanks.. we'll stay away from the chain stuff as you can get that anywhere.. I remember a steak place kinda downtown across from a parking garage in Anchorage.. also, names of any other places? Big shout out on the places in Alyeska, dont want to be limited to just the restaraunts at the resort..
Thanks

Heard this story once that some guy in Alaska wanted to build himself a house, but the had no source of cement blocks except to order them from the lower 48. He finds out the shipping costs were ENORMOUS, but after some investigation, discovers it's mucho cheaper to use the US mail. So, he has each block individually addressed and mailed to him in the frozen tundra!

Wudda hated to have been his mailman!
