No go on 4.10's, are 3.73's woth it?

I had some 4.10's installed in my 99 last week and posted that the diff. place couldn't get them to run quietly. He has tried everything and has given up.
He offered to refund my money and re-install my 3.55's or put a set 0f 3.73's in instead.
The price is about $650.00 and I want to know if it is worth the money to go with the 3.73's or just get my money back and go back to the 3.55's. I also have to consider the $100 for Ford to reset my speedometer.
Thanks
Chris

I would find another mechanic. It is obvious this one doesn't know what he is doing. There is no reason a set of 4.10 gears, properly installed and adjusted should be noisy.

I know what you are saying but he has had about 20 years experience and thinks we just got a bad set of gears. I don't know what to believe.

Anybody else go from 3.55's to 3.73's and think it was worth the cost?

Possible to have gotten a bad set of gears.

If you trust him, just replace with new ones.

remember to put in the friction modifier w/ synthetic fluid

Hey Stormy, I own a 2000 L and switched from the stock 3.55's to the 3.73's and I liked the results. Around a tenth quicker in the Q mile and a nice feel on the street too. I sometimes wonder if I should have went with 4.10's, but I think the motor might be singing a little too high on long highway trips. I think it all depends on what kind of driving you do mostly, Q mile or highway? I had my gears installed @ JDM and they have been flawless. Like you stated earlier, you might have just got a bad set of gears, because your tech has plenty of experience under his belt. Good luck on your decision and let us know how it turns out, keep on truckin', John H.
