What does the Heim Kit for QA1's do?
 

Hi guys, I was just wondering, what does the rear Heim kit do for the rear QA1 shocks? Is it a must have thing or no? What exactly doesi t do?:confused:

I've read if you have squeeks from the shock it will rid that. But it's meant to reduce bind.

Yes it reduces binding of the shocks

When you lower the trucks it can throw the rear shocks out of allignment. With the Heim Joints the shocks are allways in perfect allignment

If you ever jack the rear of the truck up and disconnect the shocks, you'll see how much bind would be in the shock.

Without a good photo of that, here's a very rough sketch showing the rotation that the shaft goes thru at the top mount. If the top mount is bolted tight, the connection tries to keep the shock from rotating. The bottom portion of the sketch shows the connection pivoting at the mount.

Even though it's a rough sketch, it should help give you a visual idea of what's going on.

what everyone has said.The heim kit reduces or really it eliminated the binding of the shock shock to the body of the shock.and eliminates the squeeks.If you see an older mustang on the rack look at the struts and you will see how they are discolored over time the same thing will happen to the shock due to the same thing.Stan
