Newbe ???, Data recording

03 lightning owner here. Been reading my owner's guide, page 6, Data recording.

It says that this system can/will record, information about the performance of various systems & modules in the vehicle &, information related to engine, throttle, steering, brake or other system status.

Any of this information could "potentially" include information regarding how the driver operates the vehicle potentially including, but not limitied to information regarding vehicle speed, brake or accelerator application or steer input. This information may be stored during regular operation or in a crash event.

This stored information may be read out & used by: Ford Motor Co., service & repair facilities, law enforcemant or government agencies, others who may assert a right or obtain your consent to know such information.

Does this mean they can void my warrenty if I drive wildly. 1/4 mile runs, road racing? (If they pull that information from my truck data recorder, because it will be there, that's forsure) Or am I reading way to much into this? Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes I did a search on this subject and came up with nothing.

I dont know for sure that your warranty can be voided by anything stored or not. But I have raced my truck, and had many mods on it. And still taken it to the dealer to get lots of work done on it. They never questioned anything about the truck or how it was used and driven. So I don't know if they go and check or if it records enough info for them to know.

Sneaky,

Oh well, at least you are told in the manuel. I don' t know about U.S Citizens but, in Canada here I think there is a clause in Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms or something Under the Privacy Act stating something about monitoring the actions of a person. Especially when they are not a convicted criminal.

Canadian Law states a person must be warned that there is servaillance equipment nearby.
Canadian Law states you can not record a conversation by Phone, tapeing in person, etc without the party knowing. the exception to the law is if a Police Agency has a search Warrent they can use tapeing, Video and monitoring devices to incriminate a person.

All this is relivant to what " I think is wrong". I will call the Lawyer tomorrow to see if there is such law against monitoring drivers.

Pat/ Bluelightning
You can see this brought out the worst in me.

I know the 'Vettes do record max RPM and a whole
bunch of other stuff AND the dealers do use it to
refuse warranty work onthe cars. I hope that we
are not heading that way in the FORD world, but
I wouldn't put it past them.

Any Tuners know about this table?

PS.... Tell me your sitting at work reading your owners manual!!!
It will take a few months for that to wear thin ... I think I carried
mine around the country for about 4 months ... <grin>

PPS... Jeff's car wash is open today ... Get rid of that salt on the way by ....

*L* @ SVT_KY: No I'm not at work reading the owners manual. I'm at home reading it.

Jeff's suck, if you ask me. I use Southland car wash. They are cheaper, and better if you ask me. Just to wash the outside only is like $4, Jeff's is like 10, inside ands out is around 10, with a card they have, it's a dollar off that. Salt??? She has no idea what salt is.....YET. Drove the other F150 yesterday. hahaha
