20's and Speedometer......??
i have a ?, i am seriously thinking in a few months of getting the 20's, replica, in chrome on the silver lightning, and i was wondering will it change my speedo at all??? or if i change the tire will it be fine....
lets say instead of going, 295/45/20, i go with 295/40/20 the only difference is a smaller side wall right? is there any other difference like ride quality, traction, etc.... and if i could get some pics of the silver guys with the 20's it would be excellent thanks. |
As long as you keep the overall rolling radius the same you will be fine. Plus or minus a lil bit and your still fine. Look for a tire size calculator on-line and you can calculate the sizes and some tell you how much % your speedo will be off.

Go with a 275/45/20 or a 295/40/20 it will keep it as close as you can get.... The 295/45/20 is alittle taller and will make it read a tad lower than your going...

The 295/40/20's are just about right, you will love them..

Here is a link to a tire calculator. This way you can compare various size tires and see what affects it has on the speedometer.
www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html As for the ride quality, the lower the profile is, usually the rougher the ride is. You will also have less protection for your wheels. There is a give and take in everything. I personally prefer the 45 series as a reasonable compromise between looks and ride quality, but others prefer the lower profile look of the 40 series and are willing to put up with a little rougher ride. It's all a matter of preferences. With 22's and 24's now becoming more popular, you're starting to see some 30 and 35 series tires which are almost like rubber bands. You might check with the tire store and see if they give you any trial period to see if you like the tires. I know Toyo was doing a 500 mile free trial period, but not sure if the are still doing it or not. They make the Toyo Proxes ST tires, which are some awesome looking tires. Good luck in whatever you choose.:rocker: |
