just wanted some opinions on how hard it is to install the Factory tech valve body. Would like to see if this is something that I can tackle myself. I am in know way a master mechanic but like to think i can handle certain mods when it comes to automobiles.. I am under the immpression that it can be done with hand tools and a torque wrench is that a correct assumption? I'm looking to increase the life of the tranny as well as firm up those stock shifts... I have heard that this is a night and day difference over stock and should expect tire between 1-2 on F1's is this safe to assume.... Truck has 17xxx , drop in filter, oil separtor and a modded stock box
SICKBOY,
You are right on target. Very easy mod to install. Can be a little messy if you are not careful. The only "special" tool you will need is an inch-pound torque wrench. In addition the the V/B I would recommend adding the deeper 4x4 pan and filter at the same time. You will gain about 1 quart additional capacity and a drain plug for future changes. Great mod to do. Your tranny will thank you.

Also if you do the 4x4 pan you can simply punch a hole in the stock pan for drain. Its going to be useless anyways so you can do it with out a mess that way!!
Anyone should be able to do this mod, if you have a inch lb tq wrench!

Thanx for the replies I was indeed going to upgrade to the 4x4 pan and filter and these should be equally as simple to install? I can just refill with the merc 5 correct?. I will make sure i clean the bolts before reintall as to not strip them. How tightshould all bolts involved be torqued down? Should 6 quarts of fluid do the trick . Sorry so many questions I just planned on ordering this round the 1st o 2nd week of january and waned to make sure i could install it no problem and be driving my truck that afternoon
Oh!!!!
Use MERCON/DEXTRON III so not use MERON V, it's the wrong stuff. Also, if you go to a dealer, make sure they don't put MERCON V in it, if they're not careful, they will, the dealer lookup table will specify MERON V for a regualr F-150, but you have the 4R100 and they often confuse the two. Stnad there and watch them put it in, they do this alot, I've had at least 10 people who saids they got it, and the dealer SWEARS it gets MERCON V but trust me, it's MERCON.
The torque specs on the valve body are 80-100 lb/in, which if you can't get an in/lb torque wrench is 8 lb/ft, the pan is 11 lb/ft and it's +/- 1, be very careful, the #16 bolt will strip at 14 lb/ft, so make sure. Looser is better than tighter on them.
The deap pan will use about 7-8 quarts of fluid, and make very sure not to OVERFILL, better a half quart low than half quart high. The instructions are pretty good.
If you have any problems, let me know over on www.nloc.info I hope you like it.

Get the 4x4 pan, then jack your truck up and punch a hole in the stock pan and let in drain overnight into a bucket. When you pull down the stock pan the next day the job will not be quite as messy. Watch out when you pull the valve body down, it has oil in it. Try to position a drain pan underneath to catch the oil. Have plenty of paper towels avalible. The instructions are good and easy to follow. This is a good mod you will really like.

If your careful you can get the stock pan down without a mess. A drain plug is nice but you can live without it. But the F/T accumulator is worth more than you will pay for it. Most fun mod I have done yet.
Thanx
Should be ordering the FT valve body and 4x4 pan and filter round the 2nd week of Janauary. I should be able to get the Mercron at checker or will I need to go down to Ford?
