It won't hook at the track....

Well, headed out to Moroso last Fri night. And the truck has 4 passes under it's belt, and every pass has nettec me a 2.2xx 60'. I've tried different things and either I leave easy or I spin, there's no inbetween. What can i do to hook up without getting Nitto's or E/T streets. I've been thinking traction bars, but will they really help on the F1's???

And my best run to date is a 13.4 @ 105 with a 2.222 60':help:

Reverse mount (L tire on R side & R tire on L side) them and lower down to 28psi... and make sure the track is prepped well. Stall it up to 1000rpm, and roll into the gas. Some people say have gotten 1.8 60's with F1's, though personally I find it hard to believe with the low end power these things put out. On F1's, look for a 2.0 or high 1.9 60'.

Different tire pressure? What have you tried so far?

Lightning#838 Dec 22, 2002 08:14 PM

Reverse mount? What is that, you take the back tires and switch em? And I had the psi in the F1's at 25 and 32......

Mine won't hook on F1s no matter what I do and this isat two different tracks. I have the Truck Traks but it's the tire's(or the driver's;) ) fault, not the traction bars.

New F1s are great for traction, with a lot of people showing 1.8 and 1.9 60' times. Get em worn even a bit though, and you'll be in the 2+ region for good...

Nitto drag radials! I am running 12.9's at the same speed you show (105.9 mph last one), with 1.83 sec 60' times. With a bit more practice on them, and tweaking the air pressure more, I can see some solid 1.7+ 60's and 12.7 quarters in my near future.

The worse 60 I EVER had on worn out F-1's is 2.0
Here they are in order
1.94
1.98
1.87 :D
1.90
1.97
2.01
1.90

There's 2 more but I have no slips, the clock broke that day.

22-25 lbs of air in them, nice slow low rpm burn out, roll up, put in N, rev twice, back in drive, DO NOT TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL. Foot on brake, like turns green, put that sucker throught the floor boards and you won't even spin them if it's done right.
I melt them suckers during the burnout, but very low RPM @ 2500.
Don't let no one tell you heating them up don't help, mine get like glue afterwards. Even after a day at the track and a 1/2 hour ride home on the parkway, when I pull in my driveway (blue stone) it's like I glued my tires, the rocks are stuck to them immediatly,
AND THATS HOURS LATER.

Here's my F-1's before any track runs at the beginning of the summer. Notice there isn't much thread left.

Don't know what reverse mounting is but I think practice is where it's at. Go out to some nicely paved road and practice rolling into the throttle. Recommend doing it in front of the cops, they always have some good input. Enjoy.

What does that have to do with getting traction?

But I agree, heat them up, a lot of smoke :D

Happy Holidays Captain,
I do a couple of small Rev's to get my fuel moving and take in some nice fresh air. "PLUS" I like to let my Supercharger know it's time to ROCK :D

The reason I DO NOT TOUCH THE PEDAL is when the light turns green, you want to WOT it "ALL AT ONCE", it does something know as "Flashing the Convertor" and lets it know what time it is. Stalling it is for people with aftermarket convertors only.

Of course there's a technically correct explanation but I don't know it. However I do know it's important to Flash it, and you do that by WOT "ALL AT ONCE" it's worked each and every time for me so far. A matter of fact that 1st 60 you see up there -->1.94, was my 1st 1/4 mile attempt or trip to a track for well over 15 years, maybe 20. You might say I was caught in the 60's a couple of decades too long, YA BABY.......

I will say that Sal of PSP tells me our beat up little track here in Long Island actually has some of the best grip in the country, he runs there often, maybe that has something to do with it.
My next trip to the track will be on PSP Truck-Trak-Traction-Bars, 28" Hoosier's, and 16" American Racing Wheels, Shinny Black to match my truck of course. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MY 60 FT TIMES

Traction problem ?

Yo Brian, save yourself a lot of hassle and just get a pair of slicks. Check out the classifieds if you don't want to spend the bucks for a new set. I put my slightly used M/T's in the used parts section and they were gobbled up quickly. It's much easier to get a good launch with slicks, just mash the go pedal @ your ideal RPM for your particular converter(stock vs. aftermarket) and you'll be pulling good 60 ft. times. I could not do very well on the F1's either, that's why I went with slicks, John H.

F1 Times

F1's 20k 25lbs
2.0 60ft 12.89 107.5mph
5lb Lower
JDM Air Cleaner
JL Chip
Boost Actuator Mod and Adjustment
No Burn Out
Drive out of hole. Any attempt at full throttle launches smoked tires and I get 13.1'a and 2.2 60ft

LatemodelRacer2 Dec 25, 2002 12:25 AM

what would reverse mounting the tires do to help traction. I know the tire on the L's are directional.

RTKILLA Dec 25, 2002 12:41 AM

When I was running F1's on my truck, I would lower the pressure to like 20psi in them, do a lite burnout and they hooked up good for me.
