Angry Lifters going bad?

Once again the truck is acting up.... Driving today at normal acceleration i hear a "rattling" type noise from under the hood. It was the kind of noise you get whenever you get bad gas. I put 93 oct. and octane boost and still have the noise. it's a loud rattling noise coming from underneath the blower. It sounds like something is wrong with the lifter, but i honestly don't know. I just had the engine rebuilt 2,000 miles ago, w/ new heads, pistons, and rods. I don't know what to think... Any suggestions or comments could be appreciated guys!

Hey Terry, if it sounds like lifters...then it may be the Cam followers ( what takes place of lifters on a OHC motor ) if the sound is coming from the head/intake area. Or if its coming from the front of the engine then maybe its the Timing Chain tensioners rattling...like they use to on the SOHC Explorers for the recall. This is one of those things that needs listened too before any judgements can be made.

I am off of work until Jan. 2nd if you want I can run down sometime and take a listen for ya. Your only like 40 minutes away. I'll bring my stethoscope so that maybe we can pinpoint the noise...I hope its not real loud...may spell trouble. Keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

I would really appreciate it.... I could use someone that knows what they're doing to take a look at it. I don't know too much about engines and how they work, but it doesn't sound good, that's for sure. The noise actually is pretty loud, it gets louder as the engine gets warmer it seems. But like i said i would really appreciate the help!

Ive got a simmilar rattle. Even if i let mine warm up for a while before i take off (hot enough to blow heat in the cab) It still does it. But then after a few stop lights there is no more noise. I am thinking about pulling the chip out and see if that helps. Seems like if it was mechanical (your sounds like it is) it would do it all the time.I am hoping its a computer / sensor problem.

Good luck with yours

Sounds like Marbles in a can?

If so it is the Cam followers, mine did it.

Did you have them replaced, or let it go? How much $$?

Sounds to me like those aftermarket forged pistons. Mine is very noisy in the winter.
