Smile Boost Pulley Question

I would like to increase the lower superchargers drive pulley size and increase the HP without turning the connecting rods into pretzels.
I have been reading this board for quite some time and lurking in the shadows, content with listening to the advice/problems of other members and heeding to the recommendations of several of it's posters.
I have a Black 02 "L" that has a few mods. Mods that I have decided on primarily due to the board’s members and their thoughtful writings, pros and cons, of products aimed at increasing the Lightning’s overall performance.

Mods to my "L" so far include:

JDM's cold air intake kit.
Accuafab’s throttle body.
Bassini's cat-back exhaust.
Bassinis's short tube headers.
Diablo's chip.
Diablo's Line mod valve.
Ford's Deep sump tranny pan (polished)
Bell Tech's 2" drop shackles
Denso Iridium IT-20s.
Boost by-pass.
Ford Motorsports breather.
Lighted "FORD" emblems
Tinted glass, solid bed cover, dash pad and some other aesthetics.

Now I tend to get carried away at times...LOL
and would probably opt for the 8# pulley with a Gatorback belt driving the blower...however since we well know that NO Ford dealer would honor my warantee ...gee imagine that...I really don't want to replace the block and rotating assembly in the near future from tooooo much boost at least not until I want to go the aftermarket rods/pistons route by desire and not by need.
How about some of you great guys and gals that answer/reply to the boards postings give me your' heads up on your' recommendations/experiences.

PS. Nice looking Girlfriend there RT...

Went threw exactly what your going threw... After Educating myself for about 10 months I decided a # 4 was the safest for me. I must say I really love it.. Don't forget to have your chip reprogramed...

I made the mistake of starting with a 2 lber, then a 3 lber, and finally, a 5 lber. Mine is a daily driven 1/4 mile racer with 40,900 miles to date. It has never been back to the dealer.

Just get 'good'(Amoco or Texaco for me) gas and the proper chip tune and you should be OK. Do NOT run at WOT for extended periods of time as the chips are designed for short, WOT bursts not interstate racin' .

Love Florida! I'm a sixth generation Floridian and my folks were from around Tallahassee.

Hey, LIGHTNINGROD,
A big thanks for your' reply post...I do appreciate your and Blown93's time to answer my question and the both of you are only 1 boost pound apart with Blown 93's recommendation of 4# and your's of 5#.
Hey unless SUNOCO comes to Florida with their 94 octane like they sell in PA the only gas I ever buy/run in anything is AMOCO 93...heck even the old ladies Accord gets nothing but Amoco 93...lucky Honda!

I only run WOT with the truck for spurts (gee that sounded bad) I mean short bursts just to blow them Camaro guys a new one...if I want to Interstate race (not my style) I got one of them there '02 Z06 Vettes in the garage that comes alive from 120 MPH upward.

While I think about it has anyone tried the F-1 Super car tires that come on the rear of the Z06's on a "L". After all they are 18"; seem like they get fairly good traction, at least on dry roads...not a wet weather tire for sure, they are 2" shorter in stance than the 18" lightnings stock F-1s which should relate to a better gear ratio for launching, as smaller diameter equals smaller circumference and the "L" should sit one inch lower.

Lets see my great grandfather and grandmother were grove owners in Palatka, Florida around the time of the Civil War so I think thats about four generations that I know about.

talan66, if you areconcerned about reliability I wouldn't add more than 4# pounds of boost on a stock engine; that is what I am currently running. Granted some engines are stronger than others and can take added boost, but in the last few months a few membres of this board have launched a plug or a rod and they were running 6# pounds of boost. So I think the "safe" limit for most daily driven trucks is 4# pounds of boost and the proper plugs along with a safe tune. I hope this will help you in making a decision.

Seriously, give Paul or Tim a call....you won't go wrong and since you're already in Florida you have a step up on lots of us....JR

Like LIGHTNINROD(Dan) said, don't waste your money on a 2# pulley, you'll end up just buying another one(or more)...I did ....JR

Pulley

talan66

Ive had a 4# pulley on my 02 Lightning for a little over 9000 miles with no problems at all, in my opinion a 4# pulley is a good safe choice for a daily driver.

Larry.

Cool

Hey Talan66, I'm running a 2# interchangeable for the everyday drive (non-salt times). And I actually have'nt decided on wether to go with a 4# or 6# for the track.

I know the 6# will work with a proper tune. But I'm just not sure on what's "safe" myself.

Hey there,

Again I would like to thank those who took the time to post a reply.

Thank You:

And of course those that I previously thanked.

You have about convinced me that a 4 / 5 # pulley is about the MAX for a street vehicle, at least if you care about its survival for any length of time.
A couple of you recommended “Razor’s Edge” as they were competent and also located in Florida.
Do you know where in Florida they are?
I live in the panhandle…Pensacola / Pace area.

My original plan was to get my truck moded out to where I thought I wanted it and then have a new chip custom burned to take advantage of all those mods…possibly this is reverse thinking on my part and I should plan the rest of the mods and have the chip burned in advance.
Any thoughts on this?

Think I’ll call Razor’s Edge on Monday and talk with them about a new custom burned chip.

Thanks again,
And a very Merry Christmas and wishes for a Joyous / Prosperous New Year to all of you.

Tony

Timing and A/F settings that will not allow your truck to detonate under ANY circumstances.

Then again, programmed in this fashion, I doubt there would be much gain in power.

Thanks to all!!!

Hello again,

Again I find myself thanking those who took the time to reply.

Thank You:

Tim Skelton.
USAHOOTERS.

And of course those that I previously thanked.

My email address is talan66@hotmail.com and I welcome any/all correspondence...especially from the very nice looking lady on the back of your' bedcover USA...she lends a whole new meaning to the phrase "Custom bedcover"... Just kidding LOL.

Anyway I will order a 4# pulley and a New GB belt and install them ASAP.
Now a question for you USA: can you do custon chip burns...in otherwards do you have or have access to a chip romulator and the software necessary for burning the logic gates in read only memory.
If you do that would be great and I would certainly pay the going freight...I have the Diablo single program sport chip and would gladly order another if needed.
Thanks again.
Tony
