I'm looking for some advice...

Hello everyone,
I'd like to get some advice from my fellow Lightning owners. So here goes... I have an old school gen 1 L with over 123,000 miles on the original motor (it had just under 100k when I got it). I am the second owner of said vehicle, which I have had for a couple years now. It has had a few minor problems which have been repaired (I assume they were due to the mileage and age of the truck). The truck has very few mods: K&N filter, shift kit, chip (not sure what kind) and flowmaster exhaust... all installed or bought by the first owner. As it sits, the truck needs very little work (needs a new front bumper and could use a new rear bumper which is rusting) The truck could probably also benefit from a new paint job but that isnt that big a deal... Anyway, I've been thinking about possibly having the engine borred out and rebuilt and throwing on a vortech. I'm also thinking about getting a new chip for it with a custom program... of course, none of this will happen till I'm done with school and have the money to do it!! That being said, I would appreciate any advice or feedback on any aspect of the vehicle. Thanks in advance!!!:rocker:

With the cost of doing all that you might as well put a healthy down payment and get a new one. By the time you are doen with school the Gen 3 might be out:banana:

:D Well the Vortech is really just an after thought... but I'll be done with school very soon (March) But, oh how I would love to buy a new one!!! For that though I must get a really nice job... I dont have much loot just sittin around, so that again will be awhile. Any specific suggestions though... other than just a new one? The one that I have is my daily driver as well...

Thanks:rocker:

How about a Gen II L engine in the Gen I?
That would be kinda cool.

The Gen 2 engine in a gen 1 truck... oh the possibilities!!!:D I'm sure it would fit, but I dont know how long it would last... On a side note anyone know anyways to get around the speed limiter on the gen 1's?:rocker:

:thumbsup:Thanks for that link by the way... it should come in handy!!! :rocker:

i didnt know there was a speed limiter on those...you could find out the chip manufacturer is then send it back to them for a reburn to get rid of the limiter...labor af all that would be expensive unless u pulled the motor yourself and tore it down then took it to a machine shop for boring, i would do it just because it would be cool to have a super fast boxstyle L. throw a nice lumpy bump stick in it, drop compression, vortech it!!

I had a 94 L and I'm pretty sure it cut the fuel at 115 but don't think it would go much faster than that anyway because of the gear it has. I would check into a crate motors.

:rocker:Yeah there is a speed limiter in the gen 1's... fuel shutoff is at 110mph (I topped mine at 108 when the limiter kicked in :D ) As far as the work on the engine, I have a cousin that builds/rebuilds engines and he said he would do it for me... cept he lives in cali so I rarely see him and finding a place (machine shop, etc.) around here for him to do the work might be a bit hard... as far as the chip goes, I dont even know where the computer is in the thing... so I dont know where to start there...
An suggestions on the motor work and/or crate motors? Price ranges, etc.? (I'm tight on cash for awhile till I'm done with school so most of this wont happen for a while anyway) But, any feedback is always greatly appreciated. Thanks again! :rocker:
