Lighting redesign

I know that after 2004 the F-150 heritage is toast. How will this effect the lightning? Surely ford will not build both truck frames and even if they did it would not be economical. Will the lightning take on the 2004 F-150 look in the coming years or not? Luv any input!

Yes or no?

No, the Lightning will not be the "old" style. '04 is the last year the Lightning will be known as it is now. I believe the next generation will be out for '06 and will be the new style? Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

Errr . . . before this goes any further, click on the "Lightning Concept" link above. There is a whole forum devoted to the topic.

What ever they do, get rid of those two little stupid extra doors.

If Ford doesn't I will

You know, I've read this before on this forum, about two extra doors . . . .

and I have no idea what people are talking about.

What two extra doors?

Are you folks under the impression that there are little thin doors like an extended cab thing?

Because that is not the case. There is a thin window extension behind the doors, but that is not a part of a thin door, it is just window....

look closely:

There is no door seam behind that little window, there is a crease where the bodywork changes angles slightly as it curves around to form the back of the cabin.

Here you go . . .

As you can see, the new L is a standard cab . . . only two doors (3 if you count the tailgate to the truck's bed)

Actually I like that little window. It helps ease (although certainly not eliminate) the blind spot.
Besides, it looks nice.

Kobiashi,

I know what your saying and pointing out but that is just the “prototype” Lightning and from the reading I have done here and other places the Lightning will be based off the F150 regular cab which has those two small doors.

Reason being is Ford is, at least at this time, not going to make special cabs just for the Lightning it would not be cost efficient nor would they be able to eat the cost they would have to pass it on to us and I don’t think many people would be willing to pay thousands more for custom cabs, at least not the majority of people.

Here is a pic of a regular cab F150

See the real short main door and the little stupid door. It should have a longer door like on the extended cab, it's front door is 6 inches longer that the regular cab.

This is what the Lightning should have looked like

The extra space is nice for guys wanting to do nice stereo's.. So for that, leave the regular cab the same as the standard F150's. It should also keep cost down to not build a special cab.

As for looks, I like what BMWBig6 did.

as i understand it the biggest cost is associated with making the special type of doors for an actual 2 door cab.

Honestly, the less length the vehicle the less weigh and better handling traits it should have. I hope someone steps up to the plate and shows ford just how its supposed to be, but in the mean time, i guess i'd stick with the heritage style regular cabs.

2006 can come soon enough.

Most think that Ford will compromise the Prototype look and end
up looking simular to what Roush is selling now.

Sorry but it just doesn't do it for me

But this does

Works for me

I like that Roush extended cab version, and won't be buying another L unless they decide to go that way.
