KR Logo'd Tonneau Cover

Was it my imagination, or did I see a KR tonneau cover at Southwest Ford a few months back, Arizona Beige WITH the logo embossed? I went to order today and wala...nuthin! Any help as to were to get it elsewhere? Maybe no one can help me cause I dreamt the whole thing up.

No, it's true. Did you email Teresa about the part number? They can get it. If they don't have the number, I do at home in my accessories booklet.

Rockpick Aug 7, 2002 10:52 AM

Yup, it's the real deal holyfield. If you don't have the part # by this evening, I'd be happy to post it.

I have the accessory catalog at home...

KR tonneau

I'm wondering how the ford Kr cover attaches and opens? No drill I hope! Any one know? Thanks Rick Hayes

I had that KR-Cover installed for about a week, but had the dealer take it back for a full refund of parts and labor as it looked sharp, but was completely worthless in everday use.

First the way they constructed it, the rear section on either end above the tailgate had about a 1-inch by 1/2-inch gap allowing water or in my case snow to get through and into the bed during that week we had it. So if you are doing this for water protection of your valubels, don't get this one.

Second, they have a horizontal section that goes across the rear to latch the cover to that was when you tried to remove it, it would stick. My wife could not get it off on two seperate occasions and was pissed to say the least.

Third, because the SCrew beds are not rectangles, it would not roll up for crap plus you would then have the three supports all rolling around the bed.

If you are buying it just for looks and will leave it on all the time, go for it as it dresses the truck up real nice. If you are trying to use your bed or protect your posessions, avoid it like the plague.

Also, I think they had clamps to install it but when they removed it, they had to replace the top rails on both sides from the damage it had caused from installation.

Anyway, after much research we ended up going with the Retrax Roll Top Cover. It comes in a glossy black that looks sharp with the black trim parts and tinted windows of the truck. It rolls very smoothly when you need to use the bed. It locks to protect your valubels, and extends over the tail gate unlike the competition that butts up to it. Very good product IMHO. At least it works great for us. It can also be painted if you wanted to put your own Flying W Logo on it or to match the lower begie trim (black still looks good). I just haven't had the time to tackle this project yet.

PS: KingRanch1 - Where are you in NJ. I live out west of Flemington and work in Somerville?

acbell,

I was looking at RETRAX, do you have any pics? They want quite a chunk for them however. When I called they explained that instead of just "cutting down and squaring off" like the competition did for the SCREW bed they actually redesigned the mechanism and that the drum is now 9" instead of 11".

I was on the verge of getting one for my Lightning and I think I'd like one on the KR as I like the fit and build I've seen on them so far. Also do you get tailgate leakage with the RETRAX?

TIA

Gene

Arg. I don't have the part number. All the accessory catalog lists is a picture and a description.

KING RANCH EDITION SNAPLESS TONNEAU COVER. Add a finished look to your F-150 SuperCrew with our King Ranch Edition tonneau cover. Special Arizona Beige vinyl cover makes this a perfect addition to your vehicle. Available with or without the King Ranch "brand".

I guess you could call the dealership to get a part number. Sorry.

From the sounds of acbell though, not sure about these little boogers. Sounds like he had a helluva time.

The part number is in my accessories catalog. I just neglected to look. I have both the 2001 and 2002 booklets. I think it is in the 2001 booklet. If anyone's interested I will try to remember to look. Otherwise I won't bother.

Rockpick Aug 8, 2002 08:31 AM

Yeah... it's not listed in the 2002 catalog.

Hey PoohBear,

I've been so busy I never got around to taking any pictures and right now the truck is full of pavers so the cover is in the rolled up position. We should be unloading them tonight or tomorrow night. I will try to get it washed and take some after that. In the mean time, have Retrax e-mail you what they look like on the SCrew in general.

Retrax also carries a Gasket Kit that I installed at the same time which seals around the tailgate. I also installed the drain tubes as a precautionar measure so any water running off the cover when I retract it during or after a rain will drain from the catch pan and out.

PS: Rockpick, it was eight months ago, but I think the dealer charged me either $400 or $450. I can't remember.

dufunnel Aug 8, 2002 10:49 AM

Yeah, I think that's about what the accessories brochure said, but if you got one through Southwest Ford I'm sure it would be about $250 or so.
