2006 F150 KR Q's
Hello everyone. NB to this board. I am apprx 24 hrs away from purchasing a new 2006 f150 Super Crew KR from our local dealer. I have a couple of questions before signing the dotted line.
Does anyone have any negative to say about this vehicle. Ipretty much only hear great things. I live in OR and don't see too many KR trims around?? A friend of mine suggested the KR leather might not hold up as well as the regular leather? I am looking at a fully loaded w/ moonroof, audiophile, sat radio, 6cd, garage door opener, trailer tow package, 3.73 lim. slip, etc. pretty loaded out. I have so far 2 quotes for 39K and I'll get 2K back in rebates. w/ 0% 60month finance deal. So bottom line is about 37K. Does this sound right? I question the person I've been talking to at the dealership. He seems extremely eager to sell me this car. Anyhow I appreciate anyones feedback. I don't want to go wrong as well as get a good deal. Thanks in advance, Zak |

Thanks in advance, Zak The bottom line is this -- the King Ranch F-150 is the same truck as a Lariat F-150 with a different interior and a few exterior differences. Obviously, as you've mentioned, the leather is the biggest difference. Most here will tell you (me included) that the Castano leather is a bit more work to keep looking good as you can't neglect it and expect perfection for years and years (or for that case, months and months). You will need to keep them conditioned, at a minimum, a few times a year and have to be very careful with liquids and such as this leather will, in a heartbeat, soak up whatever lands on it. This leather is an aniline leather and has no protective coating on it like the leather found in the Lariat. Spills and such are a disaster in a KR whereas a Lariat will fare in a much more favorable way (simply wipe it up and spray it down with a conditioner). In short, if you're willing to be very protective and careful, go with the KR... that is, if you want to keep that interior looking great. Over and over again, you'll see KRs on ebay with interiors that are TRASHED because the owners didn't keep them up. Then again, there are members here with 01's (the first year for the KR) that look practically new because they've taken good care of them. When I traded my 01' KR off about a year and a half ago, the interior was nearly flawless... If it'll be a labor of love for you, jump on the KR! :) G'luck! RP :D |
Rock Pick,
Thank you for respoding so promptly. My wife will be the one primarily driving this vehicle, and I'll be the one cleaning it for sure. Somehow it seems I am responsible for all things mechanical and that somehow translates into cleaning the car. We also have two girls 5 and 3 that don't seem to understand the value of things like this. LOL... Do you or anyone have suggestions for a pretreatment of this leather so it doesn't act like a sponge? Thanks again, Zak |
I'm not sure I recall anyone really going down the 'pretreatment' path... my suggestion, snare some good seat covers and pull them off when you want to bring it back to Castano....

The lariat leather would be much more forgiving with children imo.
When the time comes I have children, I think I will go back to a lariat or harley davidson series. Kids will be kids and when the apple juice cup springs a leak the clean up will be a breeze. |
i'm going to have to agree with 04 Lariat. I wouldn't do it with kids of that age. I have dogs that I carry in the back seat from time to time (with the seats folded up of course) and just drops of slobber leaves water stains. Some dry up some don't. if you can restrict food or drink from your kids while they are in it you might be ok. Good luck with your decision.

Harley Davidson trucks have aniline leather too, it's black and water spots shouldn't be as bad, but it will soak up anything that touches it just like a KR.

This is copied and pasted from F150.com
Rugged and supple black aniline leather seating surfaces create a distinctive, inviting interior. The Captain's Chairs are unique, sporting a die-cast HARLEY-DAVIDSON Bar & Shield logo embedded in the leather. Elegant high-gloss Piano Black surfaces on the center stack and door panels are flanked by a Bar & Shield logo-patterned graphic treatment. The striking instrument panel - and the overall vehicle interior - features a stunning display of chrome, including unique chrome-ringed instruments, chrome handles, vent rings, floor shifter and door pulls. Adding to the overall custom feel of the interior is a serialized nickel plate showing the vehicle's production date and number. |
Maybe I just missed it... sure didn't feel analine. *shrugs* I believe ya...
