My 3 1/2yo STX 4x4 has less than 30k miles but decided to drop a valve. Nobody I've talked with has ever heard of this happening to the 5.0, and now I'm waiting 10-12 weeks for a remanufactured engine from Ford under my 5/60k powertrain warranty. My truck is immaculate inside and out (with the exception of the missing engine) and I would be interested in the thoughts of others.

Ouch! First I’ve heard of one doing this. I put 85,000 on my 2011 and have 75,000 on my 2014. Both trouble free. Hope the new engine works well for you.

Things can and do fail.... I certainly haven't seen/heard this happening, especially so early in mileage.

Sorry this is happening to you, hopefully Ford will get you squared away. Maybe if you complain enough to corporate Ford they will offer you a free extended service plan......

Wanted to provide an update on my original post. Ford treated me well and I couldn't have asked for more. I wasn't anticipating a replacement engine until December, but I got my truck back on 12 Oct. Ford paid to tow my truck to and from my house so I could store it in my garage out of the elements. They also paid for a rental F-150 from Enterprise. The dealer told me I'd have the remainder of my original power train warranty after the install (30k miles, but only about 12 months), so I called the FOMOCO toll free number and talked with one of their customer service managers. Without hesitation he offered me a 36mo/36k mile extended warranty--on the entire truck! I've had my F-150 back for about a month and she's running like a champ. I've been making sure I let everyone else know how well this was handled, too.

Thanks for the followup! Sounds as if they took good care of you.

This is why I like Ford.

Ford has always serviced me well.

Some might know I talk about an '03 Escape that went through 4 transmissions by 100k, Ford made it right every single time. Only thing I didn't like was I wasn't driving my OWN vehicle.. but hey, like the service manager told me at one point -- Might as well enjoy the rental and not putting miles on your truck. After he said that, I was like, hmm... he's got a valid point!
