F150 headrest removal??

My cousin called and he's trying to put on some seat covers, but he cannot get the headrests off his 2001 bucket seats. He is pressing in the tab and they move up & down but will not come off. Anybody???

The manual says...

1. Pull the head restraint out to end of travel. Press release button, pull head restraint past its stop position.

2. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, press the release tab on the second head restraint rod guide and pull head restraint free of seatback.

What I see ...

For #1, the release button is easily visible. It's the on the outboard rod guide and is the one used to adjust the headrest height.

For #2, You have to look close to see the release tab. It's on the inboard side rod guide and is flush at the base.

My new 2009 is different. Depress the outboard tab and lift till it stops. Depress inboard tab and lift off. No screwdriver needed !

Headrests: A tip (And Thanks 01sport!)

I'm not a dummy, but like others, had a trial when trying to get the darn headrests off, to install new seatcovers. Tip: GET YOUR GLASSES! And a nice bright flashlight to locate the inboard push tab for removal. I did neither and ended up taking nearly an hour running back and forth between the computer (this forum) and my truck. That inboard tab is nearly impossible to see, unless you have twenty-something year old eyes. It blends into the rest of the little plastic post surround perfectly, with only a razor thin line to indicate there is any push tab there, at all. I could not see it at all in my first attempts and was pretty frustrated, figuring the forum folks didn't know what they were talking about. Wrong! It was me -- so, lesson learned. Wait, maybe I am a dummy, eh? :bows:
