Permanent marker removal from dash
 

My brother-in-law's kid drew on his dad's F150 glove box. Bad enough, but it was in permanent marker! Any ideas on what removes permanent marker safely, without any kind of bleaching etc.. There's a whole bunch of products which will probably work but any recommendations?

Ha... Treat it like a "life memory" now... My Dad still owns the 1971 F250 he bought brand new in 1970. It was only about a year old when my sister (about 4 at that time) BIT into the dash board (they had a leading edge to them back them, but were still foam) and left her 2 front teeth marks imprinted FOREVER in the dash.. Right in the center just above the AM radio, where she was sitting (they didn't have child seats or cared about seat belts at that time) and to this day, those 2 teeth marks are still there!

Dad LOVES that it's marked that way and while not a magic marker design that really would stand out, he's not going to change the dash, even thou he is currently 'restoring' that old F250...

I know that a magic marker'd dash is going to look terrible and no one keeps their "modern" vehicles very long these days, but that just brought back a lot of memories for me... :)

Us getting an '05 Lariat with good looking interior and some naughty kids here, seat cover will save it. Hope someone will chime in how to deal with permanent marker.

goo gone or goof off. then hit with interior protectant

try a rag with nail polish remover/acetone on it


try a rag with rubbing alcohol

note....the above two methods should be tried in small areas first...imo

a lite coating of hair spray....rub off before it dries

lots of pencil erasers....might work...lots of elbow grease required.

last resort Mr Clean magic eraser....may scratch plastic...follow directions on box

or paint the glove box door with matching paint

It works on white boards to get permanent marker off but you rub a dry erase marker over it and it will take all the permanent marker off. Not sure if that works in your case but it works on dry erase boards. Worth a try IMO.

It's the alcohol in the dry erase marker that takes sharpie off. However, if you use the dry erase on your dash or glove box you might get the sharpie off but you will definitely stain it with the dry erase marker. Alcohol and a dry cloth should get it off then some kind of protectant to rehydrate the plastic.

If all else fails, glove box doors are about $120 on fordparts.com

Try rubbing Alchohol...it removes sharpie from smooth plastics very well...I typically use the pads for first aid...

Awesome Cleaner from dollar general or Dollar Tree works great also.
