Carpets won't stay clean

Soon after I bought my '02 Supercab (new), I noticed that the carpets have a slightly tacky feel to them, rather like they have violin bowstring rosin on them, feels like a tackcloth. I can shampoo them and within a few weeks they are dirty again, even in the area between the seat and the door where there is no foot contact.

Anybody else have this problem? Have you found a way to remove this coating? I feel like at would take a drycleaning to get it off but that can't happen.
