Lumbar won't work
My driver's side lumbar does not work. I turn the handle and it goes from stop to stop, but nothing happens.
Any ideas? 1997 F150 XLT |
Mine does the same thing. I thought I heard a pop. I think the wire that runs to the lumbar support broke.

Yep very common problem. The cable breaks right where it goes up the seat back. Get yourself a new piece of cable and some ends that can be crimped on. Check you local hardware store.
Now remove the seat back cover. Remove the two screws that hold the the wheel to adjust the lumbar. Remove the old line and run your new line through the plastic slider and up the seat back. Crimp an end on the cable at the wheel and reassemble. Now snug up the cable and crimp an end on the seat back. Pull it a little tighter then you need because it will stretch after the first time you use it. Put your seat cover back on and your done. You can buy a replacement kit from ford but you can save a lot of money this way. This is what i did over a year ago and it still works great.:fyi: |
pfj77,
Thanks a ton. I will try it. Sound like a bike brake cable. I should have some of those around. |
Yes a bike brake cable would work great. I got my cable from Mardens off a reel they had. I think it cost me 50 cents for 15 feet and a dollar for the little ends that crimp to the end of the cable. Much cheaper than buying from ford. Good Luck.
:beers: |
Just finished fixing mine. I bought a universal bike cable from Ace hardware. Had the correct end for the knob end. I used a cable clamp at the top end. Hardest part was getting the knob off. I found a post that suggested wrapping a rag around the knob and pulling sharply. Worked like a champ. Then removed the two screw that held in the knob mechanism (didn't have to remove the panel with the seat back lever). Ran the bike cable through, clamped the cable tight.

So you can just yank on that wheel and it will come off? Without wrecking anything?
|
Yes it just pulls off. I don't remember having to pull to hard on mine to get it off. Just get all off your fingers behind the wheel and pull towards you.

The rag trick worked great. There are 6 little keys that align the knob, but it just pushes on, and pulls off....I don't know why it was so difficult to pull off.
