13 and 14 projectors

So are all 2013 and 2014 f150s capable of OEM projectors? I have a 2013 fx4 loaded and some jackass swapped out the lights before it sold. They already have moisture in them and high and low beams seem the same. I have not pulled out the fixtures yet but what are my options? Get oems? Do I need another harness ballast thing? I've heard the oem ones are good but not great. You can get aftermarket that will do better, is this true? I'm new to hids and projector lights. This situation kinda sucks.

I would go with OEM.

And please... take the time to aim them correctly.

I have an '11 Lariat. I did the stock 2013 HID update back in Aug. of '13. Bought a complete pair of HID headlights, and then the wiring adapter needed to hook them up. At the time, I paid around (I think) $900.00? for the set plus shipping (I think that was around $75.00?). The adapter was $125.00. Made a huge difference over the original Halogens.
How the truck looked with the Halogens, then with the HID head lamps. Then a pic of the HID Low beams, then the High beams.

Can somebody please explain to me the 13 and 14 0EM projector headlights. I found out after I bought my truck that they were swapped out for crappy knock offs. Lo and behold last night one of them stopped working so I had to pull them out. I found a cracked socket for the bulb. And also this mess of wiring, that was spliced into the factory harness. Where are the factory ballast supposed to be for these headlights, or is it a all-in-one enclosure? I have 4 wires on the factory harness, 2 thin and 2 thick. Im assuming ballast power and ground, and high and low signal. I don't wanna spend $700 on new headlights but I may be forced to because these ones really suck. I don't know what is supposed to be here or if I'm missing anything besides the lights.

First you need to determine if the headlights you have are a factory Ford headlight assemblies. I did a quick search and from what I can see, the 2013 FX4 had Halogen headlights, and they will have Black trim. If you have the 402A Luxury package, that would give you the upgraded HID headlights. Being an FX4, they should be trimmed in Black. I posted a couple pics I found on line that shows a F150 with the Halogen trimmed in Black, and an HID on the side. And one for an FX4. If you have the Stock head lamps it should be one of these. Also a pic of ballasts. The factory headlights are self contained with the Ballast, Bulb and retainer. For comparison, I also posted a pic of the HID's I have that are in Chrome.

I know for a fact my headlights are not oem. I don't know for sure if I have the 402a package, but I would assume so since the truck has every other option besides the fx appearance package. But you did give me some info to check into. And now I know if I buy a used projector online it should be plug and play with ballast bulb etc all in one.

Make sure you check the description of what you are buying, being sure they are factory Ford, if that's what you are interested in. People sell just the Headlight "Housings" alone too, usually called "Decontented". That means just what it says. It's just the housings without the bulb, retainer or ballast. Some guys like to buy those so they can upgrade to aftermarket bulbs and ballasts themselves.
