Anyone have Rigid SAE D Series fog lights

Does anyone have these in action? I plan on picking up a new set off CL with mounts. If so, any night shots and/or opinions? Thanks!

Rigid part # 50481

No real life stuff, I don't have them. But here are some pictures of them in use. http://www.xtremediesel.com/rigid-in...light-set.aspx

I have the SAE fogs from Rigid and they're wonderful. Low wide light and they don't glare and bother oncoming traffic. I run them 100% of the time when my heads (OEM HIDs) are on and never have any complaints.

Here are some output shots:

Halogen 9145 fogs only:

Rigid SAE fogs only:

Here's an output shot against a wall...SAE fogs only...showing the low flat cutoff:

Great shots. Thanks! Now if someone has the same type of pics for the Rigid Dually Spots, we're in business!

I have the sae/dot also. I like them alot, very bright, to bright for long drives in snowy weather. The amber covers/not running my vision x light cannons helped out alot on eye strain. Looking into a e2 20" combo now

329PD 02-06-2016 09:42 PM

How did you go from a 9145 plug to the Rigid plug?

Cody4359 02-06-2016 10:21 PM

Deutch connector adapter, we're like $20 so I didn't have to hack wires

329PD 02-06-2016 10:52 PM

Like napa or similar auto store?

MCDavis 02-07-2016 10:00 PM

You need a set of these:

Perfect! Ordering up. Thx

So dumb question, how the heck do you adjust them once they are installed? Looks to me it's a lot of trial and error bolting and unbolting them.

Depends on how you mount them, but yes if you use the Rigid mount it's a matter of eye balling it then unbolting them.

I went a bit more complicated and did this:

Attachment 2476

Attachment 2477

Attachment 2478

Attachment 2479

This allowed me to use the factory adjustment screw to fine tune the alignment. It's a bit more work but it turned out really nice. It also allowed me to clock the light outward about 10 degrees and still aim them nicely. I bought a set of knockoff fog buckets online...my factory fogs are intact in a box on the shelf.

329PD 02-09-2016 10:26 PM

That's a great idea. Too bad I bought the rigid adaptor already.

MCDavis 02-10-2016 08:06 AM

Yeah that sucks, but it'll still work. Be careful how you aim these as they're stupid bright. You're basically adding another set of finely tuned headlights to the mix. They will be brighter than your halogens, and will wash out their output.
They compliment my OEM HIDs on my '13 quite nicely.

329PD 02-10-2016 10:37 AM

Good to know. I'm hoping to aim them just below the low beam halogen cutoff.

MCDavis 02-10-2016 11:02 AM

Right, but remember those two points are about 18" apart, so what looks like "below" at 25 feet could actually be aimed upward slightly. Also, you're going to get a pile of foreground lighting with these, so be prepared for that cause it'll actually make things in the distance look darker as the foreground lighting is playing with your eyes.

thelariat02 02-10-2016 05:44 PM

You want a 2.5" drop at 25'. So if the fog lights are 20" off the ground on the truck at 25' on the wall the top of the cut off should be 22.5"

329PD 02-10-2016 08:04 PM

What do you recommend the top cutoff be for the low beams in that setup?

thelariat02 02-10-2016 10:43 PM

Low beams work the same way. 2.5" drop at 25'

329PD 02-13-2016 01:25 AM

MCDavis, how far away from that fence are you?

MCDavis 02-13-2016 06:15 PM

I didn't measure, but I was in between the rows in the parking lots. I'd say it was about a truck length. Why?

329PD 02-13-2016 07:35 PM

May use that as a guide. Having a heckuva time finding a 40 foot length of level ground. Parking lots in my town all slope.:goodbad:

MCDavis 02-14-2016 03:09 PM

24-25' is the ideal distance. Somewhere between horizontal and 2" drop is what you want for fogs.

But figure 10' for the truck itself and you have close to 40'

Ha good point. Been a long day.

329PD 02-15-2016 10:03 AM

😉

I figured you'd catch that.. I will mess with them today.

Low beams. Rigid yellow covers.

High beams

thelariat02 02-17-2016 10:22 AM

They don't seem to wide, but the beam pattern is very tight, no glare, and bright. I like it!

MCDavis 02-17-2016 12:02 PM

They gain width...a lot of it...once you're away from the truck. Claimed width from Rigid is 45* but they sure seem wider than that from behind the wheel.

thelariat02 02-17-2016 02:01 PM

Sweet! Well let's see some more pictures from like 40' against a wall or on the road

See post #3 above. Those are my photos and they are wider than my iPhone6 could capture.

Here's some more on a longer darker road:

OEM HIDs only
Attachment 2418

HIDs and SAE fogs:
Attachment 2419

SAE fogs only:
Attachment 2420

These were taken last late Winter/early Spring, and I've since aimed them up ever so slightly to add a bit of length, fill in the HIDs more, and provide a little less foreground lighting.
Regardless, I'm VERY pleased with how they perform. And just for reference, I had a full OEM HID retrofit from RaptorRetrofit that was on the truck before these and these with the stock heads perform about the same as the retrofit did alone...just as a reference point.

Ooh ya def pretty dang wide
