Retro or OEM?

Retro or OEM?
In about 4 days I will have my tax refund. At that time I am going to buy lots of goodies for the new truck. One of those things was supposed to be FX2/FX4 Black headlights and tails, although I really want HID’s. Then I started reading about retrofitting. Then I found the OEM HID’s on ebay. My question is, retrofit or oem? Is one better than the other? Is one version more legal than the other? I hate having to swap them out for safety inspections.
On the one hand I think plug and play is awesome. If I did a retrofit I would not know where to begin. There are so many threads here from those who have done it that its almost confusing as to what needs to be bought and what install method to use. Not to mention, I drive to work daily and cannot be without my headlights because of the hours I work. I am not sure I could get it all done in a weekend. I am really picky when it comes to quality work and if I messed the lenses up I would have to buy new lights and keep trying until they were perfect. I really need a how to for a 2014 that lists everything I need to buy and step by step how to do them. I am still searching this site for that and I might just find one that works for me. It seems to me the retrofits are less expensive and I am all for that so I can do more upgrades with my funds.
To those who have done the retrofits themselves, do you see any change in the clear lenses? I took apart a set of dodge headlights a few years back and the clear lenses had fine hairline stress cracks all throughout the lenses after the fact. I don’t want the same thing to happen again here.

Retrofit well net you the better performance and even the cheaper price if you do it yourself, but I wouldn't be legal. OEM HIDs will need you still great performance over your stock halogens, but the price will be higher, but it will be 100% legal..
If you went with the OEM HIDs you could upgrade the projector to an even better projector which will help in the performance department and still stay legal.
There are a lot of retrofit how tos out there to follow.

Ok.
First - never work on yer installed lights unless you have another vehicle to drive fer a week or two. Retofitting is not to be rushed.
Next - try to find a pair of OEM takeoffs - pre-HID to save some money, Post-HID if ye's pockets be bulgin'.
Next - here's how to open ye heads: http://www.f150forum.com/f38/f150-he...-4-min-240983/
After that, it's open season - pick projectors, shrouds, ghey-Lo's if ye's bent that way, add any painting (or not).

I found these from another thread. I might go this route. They would still be legal?

Oops, just noticed you posted the same link. So they would still be legal?
