Exclamation HID's went poof

So my HID's are now dead. The other night I went to unlock my truck and they didn't come on. They were working fine earlier in the day but now they don't come on at all. The ones in my foglights are fine. The strange thing about it is I put my halogens back in and I have my drivers side lowbeam, but no passenger side. When I hit the highbeams I get both sides. Please help me!!

Help ya?

Sure thing - just go to http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ and buy a proper set of retrofit HID's. Be sure to get the harness too - you likely buggered up something in yer existing install. Did you check fuses?

Rip out all the Ricey Chinglish junk PnP HID crap you now have - it should be obvious how unreliable it is.

Yer fellow motorists can now breathe a sigh of relief - one less source of ridiculous glare

Not quite, Mr Obvious - OP now has issues with running halogens - how'd you miss that, ace?

Hence the advice to check fuses / power and harness health.

Purty straightforward and obvious. If it's not, then one has NO business doing this stuff in the first place.

Walk before ya run

Simple - stay stock ( after you fix what you pekkered ) or go retrofit. That's what piggybanks and parents are for

The following is for Steve - I just know he'd be on my case if'n I didn't say this, lol:

OP - do you have another set of halogens to try? This may simply be a case of one low beam filament burned out. Switch the bulbs side to side - if the low beam problem follows it's the bulb. Good luck and thanks fer not taking me TOO seriously!

BTW '97isnotold' ... got any better advice? Because up 'till now you've provided bupkis ... just like a true Millennial

Sigh ....Some people's kid's ....

I've checked the fuses and they're all good. It's got to be something in the wiring on the passenger side. I'll swap the bulbs tomorrow and see what that does.

A retrofit will happen when the funds become available. The HID's are just temporary.

You put a $35 chinese made kit that handles 30,000vAC on your truck and you're surprised that something went wrong?

Let me ask you this: Would you ever buy $35 tires off eBay from a Chinese seller?

Nah ... not me, buddy!

Yer making the same mistake everyone else does - taking ol' Bubba too seriously!

It's funny - a large percentage of the fellers running these things here are driving around with one or the other headlight gone dark, or one blue and one purple - the classic trademarks of DDM's superb engineerin'! LMAO !!!

There we go, a quick way to check without a meter.

KillaF150,

how did you check the fuses ?
A. Meter the pins on the back of the fuse while it was installed, main headlamp switch turned to on, and the MFS in the low position
or
B> Pull it, stare at it, and put it back in ?

If you do not have a meter, pull the low beam fuse for the L&R sides, and reverse them, to see if the problem shifts to the other side, if the bulb move does not pan out.

I am going to take a SWAG :
The ballast took a powder, and it blew the fuse on the R side when it went.

There are 2 fuses for the low beams ( so an issue with either lamp does not take out both ) and 1 fuse for the high beams.

BUT : When you hear hooves, think horses not zebras.
1. Bad halogen bulb
2. Blown fuse for the R side.

Sometimes it is too easy to get wound around the axle on something simple.

Well I got my passenger side low beam working again. Still no HID's. I'm thinking the ballasts took a shot to the heart. I've heard alot of people running cheapo ballasts and having zero problems. Should I gamble and get a set? If that doesn't fix it, I'm going to start my retrofits sooner than I wanted
