Raptor's Reverse Fogs

Well today I was taking down the trash and came across my old header panel with my old Hella 2020's still on it. Since I have awesome 9005 fog lights now that make these look like flashlights I decided to strip them off, take them apart, and make them my new reverse fogs. After all, I support recycling :D

Basically these have the fog light and driving light beam in one housing. Both are H3 bulbs but I modded them a long time ago when I had them as my primaries. The driving beam has the amethyst-tinted 55W H3 from NA Sylvania's Silverstar line. The fog light beam has a Osram Sylvania 100W bulb. The reflecting surface has started to peel and the lights themselves leak, so I separated the lenses, cleaned out the bowls, internals, and lens and then wired in thicker ground wires and reassembled.

Wiring Diagram:

The mount was kind of silly. I didn't want to drill into my tow bar so I just zip-tied them on there. Fog light beam is on the outside so when I look in my rear views, I have a low, wide beam, and the driving light beam is in the middle so when I turn around and look out the back window, I see a long, straight beam projected straight behind me.

I am not finished yet, I need to replace one of the Silverstar bulbs in the driving light beam since it's blown (how surprising  ), and buy some more wiring to mount the relay in the engine compartment. I will have my ignition source as the reverse lights. So when I go into reverse, I have my basic LEDs light up and that triggers the relay for the reverse fogs. More pics tomorrow when I finish up and of course, nighttime pics on Monday. :rocker:

i need to do this some day, i have my old fogs just sitting in my garage.

Looks good ... reverse fogs was the most useful mod I've done to date.

Consider wiring the lights to a SPDT switch, so that the lights can be on with reverse lights/off/on with park lights

Put some paint on that hitch ...

Looking good.

Looks good. I need to do this. Couldn't you just tap into the Reverse Light Wire on the tails?

with a relay, the factory wiring isnt setup to run more then the two factory bulbs.

mount them up higher where you cant see them, cleaner look ;)

anyone have a wiring diagram for the dual setup, with on with reverse then on with parking with a swtich?

I'm sure these old fogs won't be more useful than my HID projectors :D

I dont need them to be that useful. I backup into my bay and I'm planning on towing a camper here soon, so it was a win/win/win situation.

And the hitch is staying as-in, I'm trying to slow down my mod spending

No, the tiny 18 guage wiring going to the reverse lights isnt near powerful enough to power 2x 55W bulbs and 2x 100W bulbs, along with a 30A relay. The voltage drop would be immense as well.

I was under there for about 30 minutes, you would laugh if you saw where I originally had them. As soon as I got done, my mom came out and said: "why not put them higher up" and pointed out a spot. Turns out she was right

I'm not totally following what you are saying, but I'm guessing two relays with a diode to prevent backflow of the current would probably work.

More pics tonight.

Well this is taking longer than I expected. Plus I broke something I shouldn't have (I'm not going to say what is it, but its tiny, electrical, located in the engine compartment and without it my truck is now a lawn ornament).

you broke a battery post, didn't you?

I need to tackle mine over spring break...

close. The battery is connected to it.

Hmm... Based on your fb status i am guessing the starter solenoid?

Didn't know you were on my FB.

But yep. I was tightening the bolt back down to power the line running back to the relay and it went pop and i had a TWISTED bolt in my ratchet.

Gah, I didn't need to spend money on a new solenoid
