Blower only works in position #4.

I have a 2004 FX4. About a week ago I noticed that my heat/AC blower would only work at the #4 position. I thought maybe it was the blower selector switch. I purchased one but that made no difference. I then pulled the blower motor resistor but my manual does not tell me what resistance I should be reading acrossed the pins, none of them read open though. The blower will still work in position #4 with the resistor pulled, not sure if that matters or not. Anyone have any ideas on what my issue may be. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

replace the resistor. the only reason it still works with the resistor unplugged is the #4 setting is source voltage. it is a common problem

Paralyzer-
Thanks for the reply. My only problem is that the resistor did not read open on any of the pins. I guess I would like to be able to properly test the part before replacing it, live a ways from the dealer. Thanks again for the reply.

Does the blower reisistor look like a black wafer card? I hauled this devise out of the blower box from under the passenger dash, but there is resistance on all 4 pins, I expected it to be an open circuit or the reisitor block would be visably damaged.

The truck is an 04 new style (not heritage) and if this is the resistor pack, it doesn't look like the old coil looking rigs from the past. Just wondering if i got the right device hauled out or not. thanks.

I had that problem on a GM Envoy. I replaced the resister panel, and fixed the problem. I didn't realize Ford had the same setup.

slapped in the new Blower resister card, now everything works great, even the ABS light went away, im sure its just a coincidence as it has been comming and going, but here's to hoping!

I feel so foolish as I was actually going to put the truck into the dealer to get looked at for this fan problem. Truck is out of warranty and would have cost at least 80-100$ for the labour and part.

As a side note, I called a local aftermarket parts place, the blower resisiter was 40 dollars there, it was 17 at ford. Unless they looked up the wrong part, I dunno, but thats as far as i went with that.
