A/C Issue
 

Okay, bear with me. I have a 2008 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew, and my A/C only works intermittently. The A/C went out last year - it was the compressor and was repaired - and I've had the blend door issue I've heard about and had it repaired. This is new.

The A/C will work great sometimes, but most of the time it won't send cooled air into the cab at all. Heat works fine. I took it back to the shop where I had the compressor and blend door issue repaired. Heat works when I turn up the temperature, and the blower blows where it is supposed to, and the mirror defrost when I use it. It is just the A/C that is jacked up, and - since I live in Texas - having the A/C is not a convenience, it is life and death starting in early April.

They are saying it is my control panel. Before I pony up and buy a (used) one to replace, has anyone else had this issue? Is this a thing? The shop told me it would be more than $1,000 for the new A/C control panel. Having just dropped late last summer more than a grand to fix the other problems, I want to make sure I am going down the right road before I get a used one.

Oh, and my truck has the electronic A/C control with seat warmers, but no heated back windows - my switch there is for the mirrors. They all work.

After getting my AC evacuated and recharged, I have the same issue. Blows cold all the time, regardless of the setting.

What year and is it manual or auto A/C?

It's got the manual AC controls and it's got a automatic transmission

I've listened closely and I believe the blend door is working. I saw one YouTube video that mentioned a vacuum switch and I wonder if that's the problem.

It's not going to be the same process as the original poster's problem, he has electronic controls.

It's a 2001

Totally different system. Check the vacuum lines behind the battery.

Thanks! I'll check it out Monday when I get back and post what I find.

Fortunately I haven't had to turn wrenches on this truck. I was going to do spark plug replacement myself, but time crunch forced me to have that done.

Other than needing an AC charge, this is the only problem I've run into, in 52k miles

A vacuum problem cannot cause that issue on an 01. Temperature control is done electrically, vacuum is used to select inlet and outlet paths.
