intermittent blower fan

2002 Ford F150

Replaced the blower motor last year when it quit. It had had it after 270,000 miles. Well now the blower quit again. But then it started again! And quit again.

I'm thinking it's a bad connection, but where? Here is what I did to get it working again:

KOEO... went under the passenger side and wiggled wires... nothing. Took my knuckle and knocked on the bottom of the fan motor... it immediately turned on. Works on all speeds, just like it usually does.

Its just either on or off.

Surely the motor isn't bad already after only one year? Ya think?

Yep, the motor's bad or that would be my guess.

My Mark VIII Lincoln had intermittent blower operation but that was a generic problem of a loose connection at the blower. A short wiring harness that would correct the issue was kept in stock by the dealer because it was such a common problem.

Hrm... well that would suck. It was like standing on my head the last time I worked on it. I wonder if it could be a loose connection somewhere... kind of hard to figure out where.

Do you mean it operates on multiple speeds or it only has one speed (on)?

Have you checked the blower motor resistor? I don't have a 2002 but it looks like the resistor is mounted to the back of the housing, so a knock could transmit to it.

Works on all speeds = works as it should on all speeds. Blows low on low, high on high. Nothing wrong with the resistor.

UPDATE: It did it again today... so this time I jiggled the wires and it started up... so it must just be a loose connection.
