Red face No cold A/C

2000 F150 5.4
I live where it is hot...
My A/C does blow cool but not cold.
Any idea if this can be fixed?
Is it a mfg defect?
Sweating in Phoenix.
Thanks

Does this happen even when your a/c is set to the Max position? In really hot areas, you need to run the a/c at Max until the interior surfaces, not just the air, is cool. Then you can turn the switch to the A/C position which brings in fresh (warm/hot) air from outside.

Remember, the faster you run the fan with the setting in the A/C position, the warmer the air will feel. The coils can only remove just so much heat from the air passing over it.

If it's still warm in the Max A/C position, then you have a problem and need to take it in for repair. It could be a refrigerant problem or it could be mechanical. Mechanical problems happens when the air blend door doesn't work properly and the a/c starts pulling air over the heater core instead of the evaporator coil.

Thumbs down

I have the same problem with my A/C. I have an appt. with my dealer for the 3rd try to get it fixed tomorrow. They said they replaced the high pressure switch and totally recharged the system the last time, but I do not know for sure. In any event, my problem is intermittent. It works just fine and blows cold most of the time, but above 90 degrees the register temperature frequently goes into the high 60s or higher which does not cool. I do not think the compressor is cutting out. I can turn the switch on and off and still hear the clutch cutting in and out.
I have delayed getting the repair done because the weather has been mild, but it is getting hot now, so I have to do something quick! I will post what happens.
Incidently, I have an electrical problem as well that was supposedly fixed during the last service. My cruise control indicator light will blink at random. Possibly related, my cruise *on* switch will activate the horn on occassion. This has happened at least a half-dozen times. The dealer kept my S crew for 2 days and said they fixed it...same problem exists. Will try to get this fixed again as well!

Unhappy

I pick up my 2k F150 XLT Sport 4x4 yesterday and when the weather finally warmed up enough to use the AC I was 3 hours away from the dealership where I bought the truck. I don't think the AC clutch is even engaging, I don't hear the click and engine rpm's don't budge at all. I thinking there must be a blown fuse on that circuit although I don't even know if there is a fuse involved.

Cool

54 sport 4x4- welcome! Pop up that hood and see if the AC clutch engages/disengages. Run it for a while and see if some water drains under the truck.

Thanks Max.

The A/C clutch is not engaging, the fuses look good and the only thing I didn't look at was the relay. I dropped it off at a Ford dealer this morning, it'll be good as new by the end of the day.

By the way this is a kick *** site, lots of info.
