How much does running the A/C cut into your gas milage?
On mine it seems about 1-2 MPG from what I can remeber last summer.

I think it depends on what size engine too, 54. And the newer engines probably operate with a ac more efficient too. I get 20 with mine on and 22 without it on.

Probably only takes off 1-2 mpg, but you cant tell a difference in performance that much. ISnt it true that when you have the AC on, it takes 8 hp from the engine?

Maybe a sales man told him!

Actually, it sounds like a reasonable estimate. Probably varies a lot by make and model. Some little cars really suffer a noticeable power loss w/ AC on.

I get 22 mpg in 4.6 ext. cab auto. I got a
3.08 rear end and 255's, though. So I compromise low end off the line for the extra mpg. I dont tow much anyway.

I know there aren't any 4x4 out there with the 5.4 that are gettin better than 18. My truck gets 11.5 on average. I'd hate to see what I get while runnin the A/C.

mudder, your mileage sounds about like mine. I use the A/C a lot though. Noticed your tires are the same size as mine. Is your speedometer or odometer calibrated for them? My OEM tires were apparently 235/70/16. The odometer error probably causes mpg calculation errors.

MOVEOVER,

My speedometer should be fine, all I did was replace the factory 265/70/17's with the 265/75/16's. They are almost the exact same size, so I think that would be fine. But here in about a month I'm goin to put on some 285's, so I know it will be off then. But I plan on gettin it recalibrated as soon as I get the tires.

Mudder....I've gotten over 18 quite a few times with my 00 4x4 SC/SB 5.4. enough time that I know I'm figuring the mileage right and that it is repeatable. Highway...tires at max pressure and carefull not to go over 70 mph. It can be done.

I do not seem to notice a difference with the air on. I actually think on the highway I get better with the air on.....to much drag with the windows open.
