Fan speed - 2 lowest settings won't work
Hello all,
I have a goofy one. The two lowest fan speeds aren't working on my 2000 F150. The two high speeds do, there is a definate difference between speed 3 and speed 4 (high). Because more that just the highest speed worked I thought it wasn't the resistor block and replaced the switch, same problem. What do you think my next step should be? Replace the resistor block? Its a cheap part, $18 bucks, so I might give that a whirl, beyond that I'm lost as to what to do beyond that? Fan? Thanks in advance. Matt |
Replace the resistor block.

I did this today/yesterday.
Perhaps you will have better luck b/c yours insn't as old as mine (87), but here is my suggestion...... buy both the resistor (about 20) AND the pigtail/plug (about 18). In mine the pigtail/plug was totally shot and one of the wires melted. Have also read of other with similar experiences on this board. IMO, it is better to have to return to the parts desk at your convenience to get money back... opposed to having to go back right in the middle of the project to spend more money. Good news.... it is an easy fix. |
Thanks to all who replied. I finally got around to doing this last Saturday. It was indeed the resistor block, half of it crumbled in my hand it was so corroded. Replaced it and now enjoy 4 fan speeds again.
Now I'm going to have to read those dampener posts as my temp control is not what is should be. |
Where is the resistor block located?
I know two people who's fans only work on high speed. One has a '96 F-150 and the other has a '94 F-150. |
Located on the heater/AC box under the passenger side of the dash, next to the heat/AC blower fan. You may have to remove the glove box door.

04 F150
k, I have the same issue, the 3 lower speeds do not work, but the high speed does for both heat and AC. I am assuming I should start with the register block? Where is that located in the 04 f150 new style (4x4scab). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sweet....
Off to the part store for me now. |
Napa, AutoZone, and Advanced Auto Parts cant even order them yet.
It was only $17 at the dealership. Anyone know where exactly this part goes? |
I love this site and all the usefull info. I just started having this same problem on my 2000 F-150. Now I'm off to get a new resistor block. Thanks.

Blower Resistor - How to Find & Replace
Here's a link to instructions and pics I posted in 2005. Hope they help.

 I was wondering what was wrong, will have to check out this week since the blower motor would only work in high the other day. This sight has been so much help. Thanks to all that have replied....

How about this one ?
Fan only works on high. & Control switch was massive slack in it when you try to change from defrost to vent or any other choice. |
Your temp. knob may be cracked on the back, where it goes on the rheostat shaft or you rheostat may have to be replaced. Both are easy to do yourself and cheap.
