A/C Shuts off at WOT doesn't come back on
Hi and Thanks in Advance,
I have a 97 Lariat 4.6 5spd w/140k. The a/c was cool but not cold, so after reading posts I added a small can of R134. Everything worked great, good and cold, about 45 degrees. However, now after WOT the a/c shuts off and stays off, hot air comes out until I shut off the engine for at least a few minutes. I know it could be programed to shut off during WOT, but does anyone know why it won't come back on? |
Bump to the top... No one has any replies? I am having the same problem with a friend's car. We replaced the compressor clutch today and the compressor still won't come on. I know that the ranger has a WOT compressor relay, does the F-150 have the same?

Sounds like an over charge or a bad Cut-Off Switch.

So how could I test this switch?

It sounds like it is working OK (the switch).
Your high side is not going back low enough to reset the switch. You may have a restriction in your metering tube orifice or like I said it might just be overcharged. The following information was stolen from E.D. on another Thread. Hope he doesn't mind. If you don't know about working on A/C, don't do this, have it done by a pro. The A/C system needs to be discharged, opened, remove and inspect orifice tube. The intake sceen on the o-tube will probably be dirty. Disconnect all hoses, remove accumulator, drain oil from compressor, Flush out the condenser, Evaporator, and hoses. Put on new accumulator. Put new oil in compressor, condenser and accumulator, about 8 oz total, check your specs. Connect all hoses and everything with new o-rings. Evacuate system with Deep Vacuum. Charge in proper charge of refrigerant. Clean the Condsensor and be sure the fan blows a lot of air thru the condenser. You should be back to good preformance. Good Luck, E.D. |
Thanks, sounds like I have to take it in, since I don't have anyway to recover the refrig.
