Looking for new headunit
Looking for new headunit
Got my sights on some new headunits. Looking at double-din, touchscreen, and direct-iPod connection with backup cam/navi capabilites(for later install) Found a few and was wondering what you guys think.
Thoughts/suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated!!
Also, could you 04-08 guys post pictures of your units. I'd like to get an idea of what they look like installed.

I'm torn between Pioneer and Kenwood, being I've had both in my old truck. The only options that are a must is Ipod-connect and back-up cam ready. Still on the fence about Nav. $400 is the highest I'll go.
4400 vs 8400
what is the difference between the 4400 and the 8400 other than the price tag?

I put a Clarion NX501 in my 07 Lariat - love it.
Very good navigation, good connectivity, good interface, great sound (with a factory audiophile package).

Customizable "home screen" (one of three as theres lots of options for this unit - bluetooth connectivity, sirius radio, HD radio, DVD, ipod connectivity, back up camera, mp3, aux 1, aux 2, etc) - screens are navigated by "swiping" the screen - like an iphone/pad).

It'll even figure out your route cost based on your vehicles mileage and price of fuel in your area.

Navigation "night colors".

I purchased an emblem camera from ebay and "retro-fitted" it into the tailgate.

It means drilling a hole in the tailgate - but it worked out pretty well, and you can't tell it wasn't factory now that its in. I ran the cables up the rail and through the gromet under the driver's floor pan and into the unit. I jumped the power wires into light wires in the trailer plug, so I can select it anytime the headlights are on to see whats going on behind me.

The unit also came with a switch wire that I jumped into the reverse light wire in the harness beside the driver's seat - so it switches automatically to the camera when the truck is put in reverse.

I'm pretty happy with how it all worked out.

For connectivity, I hooked up a four cable USB splitter to the single USB attached to the unit. To the splitter, I attached a mini USB (to which I attach my Sony MP3 player), and a USB extension (so I can hook up my external hard drive) which I ran into the console storage box where its all out of sight.
The unit also has a rear aux input - so I purchased one with male and female ends (making sure the female end would be a close fit with the factory aux in the dash-top) - ran the female end up to the dash-top, applied a little electrical tape - so I can still use that connection, as well.
I've had the unit in the truck for six months - and love it. A very, very worthwhile addition, IMO.

Going with the JVC KW-AV50. It's got every option I want and the price is hard to pass up!
