Dbl DIN Nav in 2003 Screw

I'm sure there have been write ups in the past, but I just finished installing a Sony XNV-770BT nav system in my 03 and frigg'n love this thing.

Very minor modification:
Had to cut the top of the plastic behind the trim bezel but i left the metal bracket after bending it a little to hold the new head unit secure.

I installed a back up camera and tied the reverse light into the harness - tie in wire was found at the drivers kick panel.

Also did the relay to bypass the ebrake ground. I'm sure the FED's are on their way...

Details:
  • First installed the head unit, clearance the fit, and setting the depth.
  • Taped the side of the plastic frame and installed 4 screws to hold the unit secure.
  • Soldered the wiring harness, installed the relay setup in-line and shrink-tubed the connections.
  • Located the GPS receiver under the dash at the passenger side (the unit includes a large anti interference shield that sits under the antenna
  • USB / Video for the iPod went to the glove box
  • Microphone I ran up to the mirror area and clips into the headliner
  • GPS has a removable hard-drive that I located into the little plastic pocket at drivers right knee
  • Left enough slack that I can remove the top panel from the dash to run patch cords for an amp install in the future

Made the purchase through Crutchfields, unit was 50% off from last years price, had them include an 04 dbl din trim kit (their 03 trim is a single din) wiring harness, etc. The camera I purchased through Amazon for under $20 and works great.

Thought I'd contribute a few pics, I'll follow up with some operational pics later.

Correct, GPS antenna with its electrical interference shield. sitting under the far right side of the "surfboard"

I'll try to get some operational pics up soon.
Video and audio quality are both 10's
Nav took a while to figure out, or become acclimated to. Little bit different than the one in my TL.

I am going to be putting a double din radio in an 03. Looks like you have the answers i need.

What color was the backup wire?

Did the 04 double din kit work in the 03 or did it need modifying?
