Help! 4200DVD
 
All I need some help. I lost my install guide for my Metra kit and cannot figure out how to install it. I am sure I will have to break one of the things but I dont want to break the wrong one. How do I mount the HU to the kit??? Anyone know where to find the install instructions? I have looked :-(

Thanks x2 I was looking around but for some reason my Googlefu was off last night. I figured out how to get the correct mounting depth (Stupidly simple) but now I have to work out some kink's. I wired everything up to what I thought was correctly but my sub isnt working. It stopped working before and I thought it was the amp (Popping fuzes) and that is why I have a new HU, speakers, and Amp LoL. I am sure it is just a setting on the amp that I now need to remove the back seat which is way easier when you know what you are looking at/for. I got it powered on and did the easy bypass and am very pleased so far. It is a little slow with CD's compared to stock which is a slight annoyance but I am sure I wll get over it. Once I get it in and play with it some more I will post a little review.

its a bypass to get around the park brake.

it requires a $5 relay.

so you have pin numbers 85,86,87 and 87A then 30.

85, Blue/white amp wire from thr cd player (also used to turn amp on for me)
86/30 Ground, (the cd player GROUND WILL NOT WORK! Drill a new ground)
87A blank
87 park break wire (green wire, really long. can't miss it.)

works like a charm every time, been using it for over two months.

i took my time and soldered and heat shrink every connection.

now you can use a switch, but the relay bypass is so easy why fool with a switch?

I figured it was the brake bypass.

So I need a 2-pole relay? Is that correct or a 3-pole? I'm guessing the green wire will go to one side of the relay and a body ground to the other.

85 will eventually turn on some sort of sub for me
86/30 not sure. I'm guessing these are grounds for the HU? I don't have it yet.
87 is the park brake wire that needs to be bypassed, connected to the relay.

Am I in the ballpark here. I assume by "pin" you're talking about the pins on the back of the HU/connector plug. I'll also be using a factory adapter plug, so that may interfere to some extent.

(Yes, these are grounded, BUT they have to be a separate ground from the CD player. you will have one ground from the CD player coming from the install kit wiring harness. The other ground will need to be apart from that one, i drilled mine to a round metal bar behind where the Cd player goes.)

^ bolded stuff up there, read it.

The factory adapter plug will not affect you at all, just use two grounds, one for the cd player (from factory adapter) and one some where else for the relay.

A "PIN" or "BLADE" is what is on the relay.

Here is a example, the metal part is what I was calling the "pin" its where you connect the wires to the relay.

Cd player-----------------Blue/white remote wire----------Pin 85 on relay


Two grounds fused into one
Relay pin 86 and 30=========------------Ground separate from Cd player

Cd player Park brake wire-----------Relay pin 87.

I can take pics later if you need them, but is really simple.

That is the best i can explain it.

The relay should be available at radio shack, Advance or Auto zone, maybe even walmart. Or other auto stores.

the radio shack one should work its a spst (sing pole, singe throw).

Checked around this afternoon and the RS relay above, 275-226, is a 4-pole relay. All the relays I found at the parts stores were 4-pole. I assume that would work since we're leaving 87A blank in the above scenario.

Any insight? Thanks for all the information.

yeah, it should work.

this is how it works.

The park brake needs to see no ground, then ground.

the relay is open, when the truck key is off.
Now because you have 1 power in and the 3 grounds, you make two circuits.

85 and 86 are connected, but when the key is off 30 and 87 are not.

The cd player sees no ground.

when you turn the key on, the power comes in and goes from 85 through 86 to ground.

This throws a little switch in the relay (its not really a switch just exampled) and connects 30 and 87.

now the cd player sees ground.

If you cant get it to work, i can make you one here at work like I made for me, and give it to you if you pay shipping.

mine works with the key on ign truck running or not, a four pin may only work when its running, I don't know for sure.

Just make sure you use some of these for the relay, and try to ensue the power does not touch any other ground.

They are called female spades in case you did not know.

now its not nesscary, as tape or butt connectors will work, but what i did personally, was using soldering iron, and soldering all my connections between the factory harness adapter and the cd player harness.
Then i heat shrunk them to ensue good connection and no grounding.

I've got some experience with electrical wiring, just not up to snuff on all the relay stuff n the like.
