Advice on Head Unit

So i'm in the market to upgrade my head unit in my '02 screw. I like the look/features of some of the double dins - but being an '02 the dash cutting makes me a bit nervous.

Any thoughts on the flip up 7" screens that are single din? Only thing is i hate the stupid little pocket that gets put in to fill the gap.

I've been looking at the Alpine IXA W404, but would really want it to link with my factory changer...not sure if it will.

My main need is functionality with my iphone. Wouldn't mind the ability to play movies. And no corny graphics (i think some of the double din icons look like they were created on a commodore 64).

Any suggestions would be great!!

To clarify, i do NOT want nav, and my budget is about 4-500. I plan to upgrade my speakers, and may add one 10-12" sub down the road.

I just get a Pioneer AVH-P4200 for 419.00 on ebay, I had a Alpine IDA-X100 single din, like the quality but hate the single din look.
Pioneer surprise me with this 4200 HU sounds good and very friendly with Ipoid and Iphone, my X100 dint work with my Iphone 3gs.

The Alpine IXA W404 it is a great HU too, that was my option before the Pioneer 4200, but I like the full screen look.

Don't be afrid to cut the dash and do your self. take a look on this write up https://www.f150online.com/forums/he...ion-guide.html hope will help you.

x2 for Pioneer.

Just got my P3100DVD a few weeks ago, I love it. Got the HU, dash kit, and wiring harness all for about $330 too.

head unit

I installed a Kenwood DDX512 system in my 98. I believe its the same dash as the 02. I had to do some cutting with an air grinder in order to make it fit, but my trim covers everything and looks great! The system cost me around 300 for the unit, 20-30 for the wiring kit, and about 7 hours of my time (part of that was breaks and a run to bestbuy). It will work with your factory 6 disc changer, i took mine out because running on the Ipod is soo much more convenient than dealing with CDs. That cord is 40 bucks but so worth it. I also installed 4 Infinity 6 by 9s in the doors and a 10'' Infinity sub under the rear seat. I did all of this for around 500-600 dollars and about 24 hours worth of work but well worth it. My sound system is amazing and i get some compliments on the quality. If you would like i can post pics of the system. And if you need help installing feel free to contact me.
